During Weeks 7 and 8,
Mathematics is taught in a variety of ways including using concrete materials, virtual materials and games. Students have access to the program Essential Assessment which provides assessment data about the current skill level, and activities targeted at these skills.
VPC & Senior Classes have been applying Mathematics to various contexts. Learners have measured areas of the school, conducted shape scavenger hunts, and created their own 3D robots using 3D shapes.
During lessons, students are explicitly taught and given opportunity to practice skills in their Individual Education Plans, as well as other skills in the broader mathematics curriculum.
This semester students will have 2 mathematics goals: a Number goal and a Space or Statistics goal. We encourage parents to review the goals and success criteria set for each student.
Work Experiences & SBAT
Our Work Experience students have been attending Enable ICT Recycling in Broadmeadows. Here, they have dismantled old computers & e-waste for recycling. Some components have gold, others platinum, and the wires copper, whilst all plastic & steel components can be recycled, thus protecting the environment.
Our SBAT students have been working at North Point warehouse, providing them valuable logistics & organisation skills. Students access the program independently, & once a term a JSA learner will be the Team Leader & manage the warehouse form. A perfect preparation for work beyond school.

Classroom Teacher
In Room 27, staff and students have enthusiastically begun the Future Ready Program, creating a positive and engaging learning environment focused on building independence, confidence, and practical life skills.
This semester, students are participating in a broad curriculum including Numeracy, Literacy, Science, Personal and Social Capabilities (PSC), Health and PE, Art, Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program (SAKG) and Hands-on-Learning Build. These subjects support both academic growth and the development of important life and social skills through a mix of classroom and hands-on learning experiences.
Inter-School Sports each Wednesday has been a highlight. Students recently completed a cricket unit, learning skills such as bowling, batting, and fielding, along with teamwork and game rules. They are now progressing through a lacrosse unit, where they continue to build coordination and confidence.
Next week, Room 27 is excited for their first excursion to the Science Gallery Melbourne at the University of Melbourne. As part of this experience, students will take part in public transport training, including walking to Jacana Station, catching a train, and travelling by tram to the gallery. This is an important part of the program, helping students develop independence and real-world travel skills.
As Term 1 comes to an end, Room 27 is looking forward to the Easter holidays. It has been a busy and rewarding term, and the class wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable break.
