We can't believe we are already at the end of term 1. We are so proud of all of our foundation students for a fantastic start to their schooling journey. They have been busy settling into school routines, building friendships, and developing confidence as learners. It has been wonderful to see students grow in independence, show kindness to one another, and becoming active participants in classroom activities. We hope you all enjoy a well-deserved break, and we can't wait to see you in term 2!
The Bogtrotter story was a favourite with the students. After listening to the story, they drew their own Bogtrotter and then labelled the picture. In the next lesson, we identified the character, the setting, the problem and the solution in the story. In addition, the students identified the beginning, middle and end events.
The Foundations students were presented with a picture from the book and then using their knowledge of questions starters (why, what, how, when, who) they generated appropriate question sentences related to the picture. Here are some examples,
Flynn - Why are there mushrooms on his bed?
Felix - Why is the Bogtrotter smiling?
Samuel - Who is in the photos?
Casper - Why is he holding a flower in bed?

Our Foundation students have been exploring the topic of Location in Mathematics. They have been learning to describe where objects are in relation to other objects using positional language such as inside, outside, underneath, on top, behind, in front of, next to, left and right.
Students thoroughly enjoyed being hands-on during this topic, using soft teddies and classroom materials while following instructions and positioning these items accurately.
They have also been developing their understanding of left and right using their bodies and everyday classroom materials. It has been wonderful to see our students confidently using mathematical language to describe position and location in meaningful ways.

Our students are continuing to build their subitising skills through play. Daily practice will help them gain confidence in 'seeing' a number automatically, rather than counting the dots one by one.
Last Tuesday, our Foundation students enjoyed an exciting excursion to the Frankston Library. They were respectful and enthusiastic participants during a special storytime session with Miss Sarah, who demonstrated how technology helps librarians sort books quickly and efficiently. The library is a fabulous community resource, offering a variety of free activities for both children and adults. I am sure Miss Sarah would love to see some familiar SFX faces become regular library patrons!

A huge congratulations to our foundation students for participating in the freeze frame this afternoon. We are so proud of your efforts and for getting up in front of the whole school to present!
Kind Regards,
Miss Melanie & Miss Georgia
