STEAM

Foundation
Foundation students are learning about daily and seasonal changes and developing their observation skills through a range of weather investigations. They have been keeping weather diaries, recording current weather conditions through drawings and by using standardised weather symbols. Students are also learning how thermometers are used to measure temperature and exploring how seasonal changes influence the clothing we wear and the activities we choose to do throughout the year.
Year 1/2
Year 1/2 students are exploring space and learning about the order of the planets and their orbits around the Sun. They are also investigating the relationship between the Earth, Moon and Sun with a focus on how this creates the day and night cycle. They are developing their understanding of how objects move in space and how these movements affect life on Earth.
Year 3/4
Year 3/4 students are studying geology this term and learning about the different types of rocks and how they change through the rock cycle. They have been investigating the properties of natural resources and exploring how rocks and minerals are used in everyday life. Students will also investigate mining and the ways humans use Earth's natural resources, while considering why these resources are important and how they are sourced.
Year 5/6
Year 5/6 students are exploring space science in greater depth by investigating how the movements of the Earth and Moon contribute to seasonal changes. They are also learning about gravity and its role in shaping planetary motion and conditions in space.
As part of the unit, students are exploring First Nations astronomy and examining how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples use detailed observations of the sky to understand seasonal change, navigation and the natural world.
