Preps
Our Prep students have been focusing on developing their jumping, hopping and skipping skills through fun and structured activities. In week 1, students learned how to jump safely using two feet, with a strong focus on landing softly and bending their knees (“dobla las rodillas”) to stay safe. In week 2, they progressed to hopping on one foot, practising balance and control while moving in straight lines and small games. By week 3, students were introduced to skipping with a rope, learning how to coordinate their movements and work with a partner in small group activities. Across all lessons, there has been a strong emphasis on safety, control and confidence, while also building simple Spanish vocabulary such as “saltar” (to jump), “equilibrio” (balance), “derecha” (right), “izquierda” (left) and “quietos” (freeze). It has been great to see students improving their coordination and confidence each week while working cooperatively with others.

1/2s
In Years 1 and 2, students have been developing their object control skills through throwing and catching activities. In week 1, the focus was on throwing (“lanzar”) with accuracy, where students practised underarm throws to partners and targets, learning key cues such as stepping forward and aiming at a target. In week 2, students built on this by focusing on catching (“atrapar”) using two hands, tracking the ball with their eyes and using “soft hands” to absorb the catch. By week 3, students combined both skills, practising throwing and catching with a partner and applying these skills in small team games that encouraged continuous play and cooperation. Across the three weeks, there has been a strong emphasis on control, coordination and teamwork, with students using Spanish vocabulary such as “lanzar” (to throw), “atrapar” (to catch), “compañero” (partner) and simple phrases like “pasa la pelota” (pass the ball). It has been great to see students improving their confidence, accuracy and ability to work positively with others.

3/4s
In Years 3 and 4, students have been developing their passing and movement skills in game situations, with a strong focus on teamwork and communication. In week 1, students practised chest passes and bounce passes, learning to use correct technique such as stepping forward, keeping eyes on the target and having “manos listas” (ready hands) to receive the ball. In week 2, the focus shifted to working as a team while passing, with students learning to communicate, call for the ball and support each other during small-sided games. By week 3, students applied these skills by learning how to move into space to receive a pass, recognising where and when to move to support their teammates in modified invasion-style games. Throughout these lessons, students have been building their understanding of game awareness and cooperation, while using key Spanish vocabulary such as “pasar” (to pass), “atrapar” (to catch), “correr” (to run), “mira” (look) and “pase” (pass). It has been great to see students improving their ability to work as a team, communicate effectively and make better decisions during gameplay.

5/6s
In Years 5 and 6, students have been focusing on invasion game principles, particularly creating space, supporting teammates and defending effectively. In week 1, students explored how to move into open space (“espacios abiertos”) to receive passes and maintain possession, learning how movement off the ball helps the whole team. In week 2, the focus shifted to using effective passing techniques while moving, encouraging students to pass accurately and then reposition to support play, using cues such as “paso, miro, corro” (pass, look, run). By week 3, students were introduced to defensive concepts, learning how to mark an opponent and intercept passes by reading the game and positioning themselves effectively. Across these lessons, students have been developing their tactical understanding, communication and teamwork, while using Spanish vocabulary such as “marcar” (to mark), “interceptar” (to intercept), “moverse” (to move) and “espacio” (space). It has been great to see students making smarter decisions, working collaboratively and applying strategies in game situations.

Cross Country
This week, students from Years 3 to 6 participated in the Cross Country tryouts. It was fantastic to see such high levels of effort, resilience and determination, with many students challenging themselves to complete the course and perform at their best. I look forward to sharing the list of students who have qualified for District soon!
Yours faithfully,
