As Semester 1 draws to a close, our VCE VM students have been working hard to complete their learning activities and Outcome Tasks across all subjects. The VM team has been impressed by the positive work ethic, persistence and commitment demonstrated by students throughout the term.

Our recent catch-up days were well attended and provided valuable opportunities for students to complete outstanding work and stay on track with their studies. Students are encouraged to speak with their teachers about any remaining assessment tasks to ensure all Semester 1 requirements have been completed.

This term has also included several valuable enrichment and learning experiences. Year 12 students participated in the P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth) Program at Latrobe Regional Health as part of their Personal Development Skills and Work Related Skills studies. The program provided powerful insights into the consequences of risk-taking behaviour and the importance of making safe and informed decisions.

Our Year 12 students also demonstrated their leadership skills by planning and facilitating a range of activities for Year 7 students from the Churchill Campus. This experience allowed them to showcase the skills they have developed through their Personal Development Skills studies while building connections with younger students across the college.

Semester 1 classes conclude this week, with Semester 2 classes commencing next week. Students also have two weeks of their work placement remaining this term, providing further opportunities to develop workplace skills, gain industry experience and strengthen connections with employers.

We congratulate all students on their efforts throughout the semester and look forward to another productive term ahead.

PARTY Program

Earlier this term, our Year 12 VCE VM students participated in the Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (P.A.R.T.Y.) Program at Latrobe Regional Health (LRH).

The P.A.R.T.Y. Program is an interactive injury awareness and prevention initiative that uses real-life clinical experiences to educate young people about the potential consequences of risk-taking behaviours. Research has shown that participation in the program can reduce the incidence of traumatic injury by encouraging informed decision-making and safer choices.

Throughout the day, students explored the hospital environment, including an ambulance, and gained valuable insights into how injuries occur and the long-term impacts they can have on individuals, families and communities. The program encouraged students to recognise potentially dangerous situations, make prevention-focused decisions and adopt behaviours that minimise unnecessary risks.

Students also had the opportunity to engage with a range of emergency services and healthcare professionals, including paramedics, nurses and rehabilitation staff, who shared their experiences and highlighted the importance of personal responsibility and safety. A particularly powerful part of the program was hearing from a road trauma survivor, who spoke candidly about the circumstances of his accident, the life-changing injuries he sustained, and the challenges of his recovery journey. His story provided students with a firsthand insight into the lasting impact that risk-taking behaviours can have on individuals and their families.

Our students found the experience both insightful and highly engaging, gaining a deeper understanding of the real-world consequences of risk-taking behaviour. The program provided a powerful learning opportunity that will help students make informed and responsible choices in the future.

Year 12 Leadership Activities

On Tuesday 2 June, our Year 12 VCE VM students welcomed a group of Year 7 students from the Churchill Campus as part of their Personal Development Skills (PDS) focus on leadership.

In the lead-up to the visit, the Year 12 students worked collaboratively to plan and develop a series of interactive activities designed to engage and challenge the Year 7 students. Throughout the day, they took responsibility for facilitating the activities, demonstrating confidence, initiative and strong leadership skills.

The Year 7 students enthusiastically participated in a variety of team-building and problem-solving activities, providing them with an opportunity to connect with older peers, develop new skills and experience a supportive learning environment at the Uni Campus.

For the Year 12 students, the event was a valuable leadership experience that allowed them to further develop their organisation, communication, teamwork and facilitation skills. They demonstrated maturity and professionalism while guiding the younger students and ensuring everyone felt included and engaged.

A big thank you to our Year 12 VCE VM students and staff for their preparation, enthusiasm and leadership, and to the Year 7 students for their positive participation and willingness to get involved. The day was a great success and showcased the strong sense of community, collaboration and student leadership that exists within our college.

Job Skills Expo

Upcoming Excursion:  On 28 July, our VCE VM students will attend the Job Skills Expo at Lardner Park, an exciting event that brings together employers, training organisations, apprenticeship providers and industry representatives from across the region.

The expo provides students with a valuable opportunity to explore a wide range of career pathways, gain insights into different industries and learn about employment, apprenticeship, traineeship and further education opportunities. Students will be able to speak directly with employers and training providers, ask questions about career options and develop a better understanding of the skills and qualifications required for future success.

Attending the Job Skills Expo supports students in making informed decisions about their post-school pathways and helps them build confidence as they prepare for employment and further training opportunities.

Work Placement

Students are reminded to ensure that all work placement paperwork and documentation is up to date. This includes collecting reports and timesheets from employers.  Maintaining accurate records is an important part of meeting VCE VM requirements.

For students who need assistance securing a new work placement for next term, support will be available during our scheduled Friday classes. Staff will be available to help students explore opportunities, contact employers and complete any required paperwork.

Attendance

A reminder that students are expected to maintain 90% attendance or higher. Regular attendance and active participation in class are essential for successful completion of VCE VM studies.

If students are absent from VET or Work Placement, they should contact the VET/Work Placement and the school.

Consistent attendance allows students to stay engaged with their learning, participate in practical activities and ensure teachers have sufficient evidence to authenticate outcomes. Students who attend regularly are better positioned to achieve success in their studies and meet course requirements.
