Message from the Principal
Dear parents, carers and friends of EEPS,
We are settling into the routines of another term, with lots on the go. Thank you to those parents and grandparents who were able to attend our Anzac Day commemorative service on Friday. Our School Captains, JSC Leaders, JSC Year 5 Reps and our school choir did an absolutely fantastic job, and the school is very proud of them. We have received lovely feedback about the respectful nature of the commemorative service, which has been wonderful to receive.
Recognition and Understanding
Over the year there are many special days that highlight different aspects of life within our community. Some of these days are more widely known, such as World Environment Day, whilst many others are not. On Tuesday, 28th April it was KIF1A Day - a day to celebrate and raise urgent awareness for KIF1A -Associated Neurological Disorder (KAND). Many people would not have heard of this before. KIF1A is a gene that codes for a protein found in brain cells, playing a crucial role in transporting essential substances within nerve cells. Mutations in the KIF1A gene can lead to KIF1A-Associated Neurological Disorder (KAND), a progressive, neurodegenerative disorder. KAND can cause various symptoms, including intellectual disability, developmental delays, muscle problems, seizures and vision impairments. Whilst rare, I highlight it this week, because as a school community we do have a student with this condition. Knowledge and awareness can go a long way in helping.
Behaviour Response Process
All EEPS classes have been introduced to the updated Behaviour Response Process that I referred to in this column last week. On Monday, being our first assembly of the term, I was pleased to reiterate key aspects of the process for all the students as a whole school. The Behaviour Response Process (BRP) is available to our parents on the school website, under ‘Wellbeing & Engagement’, as a reference for families. I again emphasise the importance of “kindness matters” at EEPS.
Premiers’ Reading Challenge
The 2026 Premiers’ Reading Challenge is on again. As a school we love to get involved and encourage maximum participation. We value reading, storytelling and stories and know that this fuels our imagination. Please look out for further details in the newsletter.
Junior School Council Activities
Please remember to include a special family recipe in the 2026 EEPS JSC Recipe Book. We still have a few weeks, but time will fly by.
The JSC have also organised a fundraiser dress-up day for World Environment Day, Friday 5th June. More information will follow on this.
Everyday Counts
The central message from the Department, and from EEPS is that ‘everyday counts’ when it comes to attending school. As a school, our student absence data is slightly higher than ‘similar schools’. ‘Similar schools’ are those who have similar parent occupations and level of advantage / disadvantage. We completely reinforce that school is not the place for sick children, and I understand that sometimes special trips and family reunions don’t always happen in the holidays. However, please be really mindful of the importance of regular and consistent attendance. It is very true that everyday does count!
Coming up over the next few weeks are many activities, including the Musica Viva concert on Thursday. Please continue to keep up to date with Compass Newsfeeds and events!
Have a great week of Learning and Growing Together.
Kind regards
Warren Lloyd
Principal
