NAPLAN Online 2024
Students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in the Naplan online tests commencing on Wednesday 13th March. The online testing period will conclude on Friday 25th March. The NAPLAN tests are designed to provide a summative, nationally comparable understanding of student performance in writing, reading, conventions of language and numeracy.
NAPLAN online provides better assessment, more precise results and a faster turnaround of information. NAPLAN online is a tailored test that adapts to student responses, presenting students with questions that may be more or less difficult depending on their ability – resulting in better assessment and more precise results. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a series of online practice tests prior to the testing date. The NAPLAN timetable will be shared with parents prior to the testing period.
All students will require a set of working headphones for test participation.
The student reports for parents will be distributed once they have been received by the school.

Working With Children - School Volunteers Induction Sessions
This year the school would like to extend an invitation for parent volunteers to assist in the classrooms, at sporting events and excursions. Sydney Catholic Schools is dedicated to upholding the values and practices that create safe learning environments for students.
In accordance with the SCS’s child safe school’s practices the following is required for all school volunteers:
- Attend an induction session run by the relevant SCS school. This will include expectations for volunteers working in a school environment or assisting at excursions or sporting events
- Complete the Child Safe online induction course and submit your Working with Children check number.
- Read the documents in the Child Safe Schools Resource Kit for Volunteers
- The relevant Principal/Manager will review the application to volunteer
- If approved, you will be registered at the school as a volunteer
- If the Principal/Manager has a concern about your suitability to be a volunteer, they will communicate the concern with you
It is necessary for all school volunteers to complete the Child Safe online induction via the following link Child Safe Communities in addition to participating in a face to face school based presentation.

Parents who would like to be volunteers at the school during the school year are invited to attend Working With Children Parent Induction sessions on:
Tuesday 20th February at 4.00 and at 5.00pm (Library)
Wednesday 28th February at 4.00 and at 5.00pm (Library)
Thursday 29th February at 8.00am (Library)
Meet and Greet Interviews
To assist teachers to provide an engaging learning experience to meet the needs of your child you are invited to attend a ‘Meet and Greet’ interview during Weeks Three and Four on the school site. A student information questionnaire has been sent to parents to assist teachers in learning more about their students interests and learning styles.
Please return these surveys to your child’s classroom teacher.
- In Week Three on Tuesday 20th February interviews will commence at 3.10pm and conclude at 6.30pm.
- In Week Four on Wednesday 28th February interviews will commence at 3.10pm and conclude at 5.00pm.
To attend a ‘Meet and Greet’ interview please complete the interview booking portal located on our school online web system: COMPASS. If using the APP select menu/conferences/2024 Meet and Greet. Please contact your child’s teacher if you would like to cancel or reschedule your interview time.
Mandarin 2024
Students in Kindergarten to Year 6 will be participating in a Chinese language program called the Meg Language Program. The Meg Curriculum is written by the co-author of the Australian Curriculum. Students and teachers will engage in this digital learning platform via Zoom for weekly sessions.
The interactive lessons enable students and teachers to engage in dialogue with the Mandarin teachers and learn about the culture of China.
Teachers and students look forward to learning about people from a different culture and the opportunity to converse in another language.
Sydney Catholic Schools Eisteddfod 2024
Registrations are now OPEN for the 2024 Sydney Catholic Schools Eisteddfod!
Interested in your child participating? Follow these easy steps:
- Read the Participation Guidelines carefully. (Parent Information Slides)
- Parents can register their child as a solo performer (Note - solos are limited to students from Years 3 - 12 only).
- After the closing date, check your emails for updated information and details of the performance schedule.
Important to note: Solos, duos, trios and quartets will occur in the APRIL SCHOOL HOLIDAYS (Teachers are not expected to supervise students during school holiday events - parents are to arrange attendance). All ensemble events will occur on weekdays during Term 2.
Student Supervision
School supervision commences at 8.20am each morning. Parents if your child is arriving a little earlier than that time please ensure they are outside the school office. Please refrain from dropping students off in Burn’s Lane early in the morning as this is a public area that can be quite busy.
Parking
Parents are reminded that there is no parking allowed in the staff car park, the school administration area and the designated Fatima Preschool car spaces.
Please also be reminded that dogs are not allowed on the school site.
OLF Garden Volunteers
Our garden crew would love some parent and grandparent volunteers to help out in the garden and with the chickens. If you have a green thumb and some time and would like to volunteer please contact the office.
