Final Day Term 1

Year 7 Camp

This year's Year 7s embarked on their first camp, the very first day of Term 1. With enough enthusiasm to power the bus there and back, we headed off to Boort, to camp beside Boort Lake in the local caravan park. Upon arriving, students didn't hesitate before setting up their tents and organising the campground.

The first night, we made delicious pizzas using the Boort District School pizza oven, made by local Paul Haw. Some of us declared these pizzas were the best pizzas we had ever tasted!

The following day saw us start with some team building. Challenges included a magic carpet, getting across a lake of lava with a few, measly life rafts, skip-roping a towel and untangling a human knot.

We then headed off, across Boort, over to the Spanner Man where we walked around his garden of incredible structures and heard his inspiring story. Our adventure then took us back across town to Yung Balug Aboriginal Artefacts Museum, where Paul, who had cooked our pizzas the night before, shared Australia's rich history. Students learnt about the artefacts and history of Indigenous people between Boort and Charlton and heard the remarkable stories of how Indigenous people cared for the land. We finished our time with Paul looking at his GIANT pumpkin; said to be putting on five kilograms a day!

After our adventure out, we headed back to the park and enjoyed an afternoon swimming and kayaking. For dinner, we made our own burgers and reflected on our positives, challenges and things we are looking forward to and will be taking away from camp, into the new year in Year 7. Our final day saw us learning the art of bowls and croquet with some fabulous locals as instructors. Students teamed up and challenged each other with enthusiasm, some coming out on top, developing skill and knowledge of the sports.

Overall, we had a fantastic camp! Our attended staff; Ms Bishop, Kim Sprake, Mr McCallum, Tom Ayars, Tash Roberts, Jess McGurk, Ms Gadbsy, Mrs Fitzaptrick, Mr Kemp and Mr Zudetich were more than impressed with the Year 7 cohort and enjoyed getting to know them all.

We are all looking forward to the new year for our fresh Year 7's, and hope it is a positive start for our returning Year 8's and 9's.
