STEM/Science
During Term 1 Biological Science is the focus of our science curriculum. Guided by Primary Connections, our students across all classes will explore various themed units, each designed to spark curiosity, foster inquiry, and deepen understanding.
Our Foundation students will explore the wonders of growth and living things through the "Growing Well" unit. From seeds sprouting to plants flourishing, students will discover the magic of the natural world as they investigate the life cycles of plants and the factors that contribute to their growth.
In the "Dinosaurs and More" unit, Grade 1/2 students will journey back in time to uncover the mysteries of prehistoric life. Students will engage in hands-on activities and investigations to learn about dinosaurs, fossils, and the science of palaeontology and compare prehistoric and modern adaptations of animals and plants.
"Among the Gum Trees" will take Grade 3/4 students on an exploration of the unique ecosystems found in Australian forests. Through inquiry-based learning, students will investigate the diversity of flora and fauna in these habitats, uncovering the interconnections between living organisms and their environment.
Grade 5/6 students will embark on an expedition into the world's most inhospitable environments with "Desert Survivors." Through scientific inquiry, students will uncover the remarkable adaptations that enable plants and animals to thrive in arid landscapes, exploring topics such as water conservation, camouflage, and heat tolerance.
Throughout these units, students will engage in hands-on experiments, collaborative investigations, and interdisciplinary learning experiences that integrate science with literacy, numeracy, indigenous perspectives and critical thinking skills.
School Garden
As we step into the new year, we are delighted to share some exciting updates from our vegetable gardens. Despite the challenges posed by the holiday break, our students have been hard at work, dedicating themselves to the care and maintenance of our school garden. From harvesting our vegetables and weeding and watering to pruning and planting, they have tackled each job with enthusiasm. One of the highlights of our recent sessions in the garden has been the harvesting and collection of seeds. As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and self-sufficiency, students have been actively involved in collecting seeds from our crops. These seeds will be carefully saved and replanted, ensuring a continuous cycle of growth in our garden.
