School Nurse Visits

Yesterday I met Meg, our School Nurse, allocated to St. Mel's Primary School by the Victorian Department of Education as part of the Primary School Nursing Program

The Primary School Nursing Program offers a FREE basic health check program for children in their first year of primary school.

These screening assessments provide valuable information to parents, carers and school staff in support of children's academic, social, physical development.

Basic screening assessments are conducted as follows:

  • Hearing
  • Speech
  • Dental
  • Vision
  • Motor Skills
  • Behaviour & Social Skills

Parents and carers of children in Foundation (Prep) can click on the following link to register their child for a visit with Meg, our primary school nurse:

Once the assessments are completed parents and carers are contacted where there may be a need for their child to have a follow up health check with their doctor, a speech therapist, occupational therapist, optician or applied health professional.

In my role as principal across multiple schools in various areas of country Victoria I am very pleased the St. Mel's Primary School Community has access to this important state government funded program offered FREE OF CHARGE to our families.

[Note: Pastoral Group Teachers are also invited to speak with parents and carers of children from Year 1 to Year 6, to discuss a follow up health assessment]

For more information please contact our School Office or speak with Steve (Principal) or Danae (Deputy Principal).
