School Wide Positive Behaviour Intervention & Support

 SWPBS / PBiS / PBIS / SWPBiS

Known by many names and acronyms School Wide Positive Behaviour Intervention & Support is an evidence-based, data driven, decision making framework that supports school communities:

  • Build and strengthen positive relationships
  • Clarify and communicate School Wide Expectations
  • Teach and reinforce social competencies, emotional literacy and positively influence academic achievement
  • Implement systems to teach, reinforce, acknowledge desired behaviour
  • Respond appropriately to undesired behaviour
  • Create, promote and maintain a safe, enjoyable learning environment for all

St. Mel's Primary School's framework for SWPBS is aligned with the Catholic Education Sandhurst Ltd Student Behaviour Framework.

Please support our efforts to create, promote and build a positive, safe and respectful school environment & culture by speaking with your child regularly about concepts and ideas appearing on these pages!

"Leave No Trace"

This 'catch cry' or motto serves to remind us of the need to be mindful of our impact on the environment, learning areas, playground and/or wherever we are.

When we 'LEAVE NO TRACE' we leave a place or space BETTER than we have found it when we arrived.

When we LEAVE NO TRACE we:

  • pack up our materials
  • pick up & dispose of rubbish
  • put sports equipment away
  • vacuum the floor
  • tidy furniture
  • take our hats and jumpers home
  • put books and resources away
  • take items back to where they belong

Our children and Staff Team have been focussing on this all week and will continue to use this phrase to remind one another of the need to DO OUR BEST and RESPECT OUR SCHOOL!

Our learning areas, playground and gathering spaces look so much better when we LEAVE NO TRACE!

KEEP DOING WHAT I AM DOING

MOVE AWAY!

ASK SOMEONE FOR HELP!

In addition to continuing to support children display appropriate or desired social behaviours, we will also introduce this School Wide Approach for when someone or something is bothering us.

"When someone or something is bothering me I can...

                1. Keep doing what I am doing!

                2. Move away!

                3. Ask someone for help!"

We will continue to use these and other evidence-based strategies in support of our School Wide Positive Behaviour approach.
