Year 5

Kate Yates (Team Leader), Sally Dyett, Kerryn McConachy, Damon Webb, Chris Bird

Gemma Billingham, Rachael Fletcher and Georgia Murphy

Can you believe we’re halfway through Term 2! Hard to believe, isn’t it?

In the Classroom:

Writing:

This week, students have been experimenting with different forms of poetry. We’ve been continuing our focus on using emotive language, looking at texts such as ‘Fire’ by Jackie French and ‘My Country’ by Dorothea Mackellar.

Jenuli from 5SD wrote:

A speck of sunshine peeking from the dark

Hush, just the sound of the sea

Brighter, brighter

A roof of colour red, orange, yellow

A picnic of sand tickling my feet

Nature at its extreme

A quilt of beauty all around

The birds doing their morning dance

Wake Mother Sea

Swish, swash

The waves of the sea

Sunrise magic.

Beautiful imagery there Jenuli!

Maths

Students have been working hard on completing their recent Maths Investigation “Build a City”, where they designed different land uses in their created city, demonstrating understandings of fractions and location.

Emily from 5KM

Homework

This week students are researching an Australian charity of their choice. They’ve been asked to research that company’s history, who they support and what services they offer. It would be wonderful if parents could ask questions and listen to their child(ren) practice their speech.

Buddies

With Reconciliation Week from the 27th May to the 3rd June, the Year 5’s joined with their Year 1 buddies, learning about the history of this important week. Afterwards they created footprints to signify this year's theme of “Bridging Now to Next”.
