Year 2

Katia Lumley (Team Leader), Bec Mealings, John Hoskin, Charlotte Caldarelli, Julie Reid and Fiona Hedstrom

What an amazing job all of our students did at swimming last week! Every day, they showed wonderful manners towards the bus drivers and swimming teachers and did a great job at looking after their belongings. A HUGE thank you to all the parent helpers that volunteered to help last week – we can’t run programs like this without you – so thank you again!

Wednesday Morning Line Up

The preps have the Royal Flying Doctor incursion on Wednesday morning. This means our line up area will be a parking space for a plane! On Wednesday morning we will line up on the basketball court by the library. The plane should be gone by the end of the day and we will be back to normal on Thursday.

Excursion to Mont de Lancey

The excursion is now available for payment and permission on Compass! Thank you to everyone that has already paid.

On the day of the excursion, students need to pack their lunch and drink bottles into a small back pack. They do not need to bring their reader folders or school bags. Students also aren't dressed in school uniform - please see the poster below for costume ideas.

The bus will be leaving at 8.45am so we ask students to be at school by 8.25 as we will call students into the classroom at 8.30am to do the roll and make sure we are ready for our excursion!

We have had so many offers for parent helpers and each class is now full - thank you again to everyone that has offered. We will have more opportunities next term for parent helpers.

What’s On in the Classroom?

Literacy

We are learning about improving our sentence structure in our writing. We are doing this by focusing on:

  • Simple and compound sentences
  • Conjunctions
  • Writing exciting character dialogue
  • Editing

We also took part in the National Simultaneous Storytime on Wednesday last week. This year's book was The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel and we loved reading about Tinka's adventures and discussing the story.

Here are some examples of our writing activities from the past fortnight:

Mathematics

Students are currently exploring Patterns. They are identifying and creating patterns using shapes, colours, and numbers, as well as finding missing parts and recognising what is repeating. We are also investigating additive number patterns to strengthen number sense.

Students are learning to use calendars, including reading dates and calculating how long it is until upcoming events.

Inquiry
