Welcome to this latest issue of the Nurlendi News! After a very busy few weeks, we are delighted to share that Vermont Primary School was named in the State Budget last week as one of 20 schools sharing in a total of $10 million dollars to prepare a master plan to modernise and redevelop the North and South Buildings and to include a designated pick-up and drop-off point. This is wonderful news and something that the School Council and staff have been advocating for over a number of years. This funding allows us to progress to the design stage to see what is possible in terms of redeveloping and rebuilding parts of our school - something that will enable us to have facilities that match the outstanding achievements of our students.
This is an exciting stage that will move quite quickly, and in preparing the initial phase of the submissions, I would like to invite parents and members of the school community to provide us with some feedback. This feedback (at this stage) is on the things you love and value about our school, and what you would like to see happen in the future in terms of community connections, student opportunity and experience and the ways in which our classrooms operate. At this stage, it's not about suggesting what the new buildings may look like (don't worry, that stage will come, but not just yet!). If you would like to provide some feedback to us, please use this link. https://forms.office.com/r/K8nW5nVnjw
Any comments here will help us to write our school vision and community values with input from the people who come here every day, and are committed to making Vermont Primary School an even more amazing place to work, learn and play.
A reminder to everyone that the school grounds are supervised by staff from 8:45 - 3:45pm. After 3:45pm, there are no teachers on duty, and students should be picked up or in OSHC by this time. We understand that from time to time, unforeseen circumstances arise, and we encourage you to call the office and let us know. If students are not collected by 3:45pm, we will make a call to a parent to get an update and expected time of arrival, but it is not okay for young students to simply 'hang around the front of the school' OR to go up to the shops and stay around school for a play with no adult supervision. We put student safety above everything, and if your child cannot be collected, they will (if feasible) be sent to join OSHC. These processes are outlined in our Yard Supervision policy which is available on our website.
National Reconciliation Week 2025 was recognised this week. The theme this year, ‘Bridging now to next’, reflects ongoing connection (between past, present and future) and encourages us to move forward together, guided by past lessons to build a more united and respectful nation. The last few weeks, the whole school has experienced Indigenous Incursions, visual art activities and a special assembly where the School Captains spoke about the importance of the cultures and achievements of First Nations people.
The Victorian Government has delivered the School Saving Bonus (SSB) – a one-off support of $400 for eligible government school students from Prep to Year 12 in 2025.
The SSB can be used for approved uniforms and textbooks until Monday 30 June 2025.
Any funds remaining after 30 June 2025, including online voucher amounts that have not been redeemed, will become a credit to use on school activities. However, the credit will not be available on your family account at our school until late July.
To use any remaining SSB funds to cover the cost of school activities in July, please refer to the SSB online system and allocate the funds to school activities before 30 June 2025.
To learn more about the SSB online system, download the step-by-step System guide for parents and carers (DOCX, 945KB) or watch this School Saving Bonus video. System guide translations are also available in 14 languages.
