Principals Report

From the Principal’s Desk

It’s been a very busy and productive start to the term at Glen Innes High School, and I want to take a moment to acknowledge the warm and welcoming nature of our students. Every day, I see so many of our young people striving to achieve their best, upholding our core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Diligence. It is a privilege to be part of a school community so committed to growth and learning.

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen school operations, we are currently conducting an audit of attendance procedures. A reminder to all parents and carers: students are expected to attend school every day unless they are unwell or have a justified reason for absence.

According to the NSW Department of Education’s Attendance Matters resources, missing just one day a fortnight equates to four full weeks of school missed over a year – and one full year missed over the course of a student’s school life. Regular attendance is critical to ensuring students remain connected to their learning and peers.

Please note that students whose attendance drops below 85% will not be eligible to participate in extra-curricular excursions, as school attendance and engagement in learning are our core priorities. Some families may also receive attendance concern letters. These are reminders of the legal requirement for students to attend school each day. If you are experiencing difficulty getting your child to school, please don’t hesitate to reach out – we have a strong Wellbeing Team and support staff who are here to assist.

We are also undertaking an audit of outstanding assessment tasks for Years 10, 11, and 12. For students to be awarded their Year 10 Record of School Achievement (RoSA), Preliminary RoSA, or HSC, they must meet all course requirements. Students who fail to submit required assessment tasks will receive an N-Warning Letter and be given two weeks to complete the task. This process ensures that all students are supported to meet their learning goals and continue their education journey successfully.

We are fortunate to have a team of dedicated teachers ready to assist students who may require additional support. In addition to classroom support, we also offer two fantastic support programs:

· Night Library (Years 9–12): Thursdays, 4:00–6:00pm

· Homework Centre (Years 7–8): Thursdays, 3:00–4:00pm

These sessions are staffed by teachers who generously volunteer their time to support students outside of regular class hours. We strongly encourage students to make use of these opportunities.

A reminder that Glen Innes High School has a Student Behaviour Code that all students are expected to follow in their interactions with peers, staff, and members of the wider community. We are committed to building a school environment that is safe, where all students are engaged, respectful, and prepared for learning.

Finally, we ask that all students wear their full school uniform each day. Wearing the uniform reflects school pride, unity, and readiness to learn. On colder days, students may wear an outer jacket in school colours to stay warm while maintaining a neat and consistent appearance.

Thank you for your continued support in ensuring Glen Innes High School remains a positive, safe, and successful place for all students.
