Principal's News

Dear Parents and Carers,
Thanks to our teaching staff, who have been busily assessing students and completing reports that will be finalised in the coming weeks. In the second last week of the term (June 23rd-27th), teachers have dedicated time to discuss students' achievements this year and set future goals. It’s important to note that these conversations form an integral part of the reporting process, and we stress the importance of parents participating in these. Parents are urged to book a 20-minute appointment with their child/ren’s teacher(s). These bookings should be made via the PAM platform and are open now. The children are invited to participate in part of this conversation, and parents will receive their child/ren’s mid-year report at this meeting.
School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
Our staff and students are on the way to revising and updating our SWPBS framework, also known as School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support. SWPBS involves the establishment of a Continuum of Behaviour Support that considers all students and emphasises prevention.
It is a proactive approach that focuses on teaching all students agreed-upon expected behaviours and pro-social skills rather than reacting to inappropriate behaviour. This, in turn, creates a safer and more effective school environment.
The primary prevention aspect of SWPBS consists of values explicitly taught and modelled by school staff to encourage appropriate behaviour. Teaching behavioural expectations and acknowledging students for meeting them is a much more positive approach than waiting for misbehaviour to occur before responding.
Key components of SWPBS include:
- An agreed-upon common approach
- Consistency of language
- A matrix of positively stated expectations
- Explicit teaching of expectations
- Regular and frequent opportunities to practise expected behaviours
- Recognition for meeting behavioural expectations
