Tally CommUNITY Day
We were thrilled to see our school abuzz with a sense of community and belonging last week for one of our signature events, Tally CommUNITY Day. This annual event marking wellbeing, kindness and anti-bullying was a fun-filled, action-packed day!
Children enjoyed a full day program that included highlights such as: Morning Moves (fun physical activity), wellbeing activities focused on our Tally Way Habits and an anti-bullying disco. We loved welcoming parents and carers to do wellbeing activities with their children and to join classes on our first ever Wellbeing Tour. Our Wellbeing Tour replaced our picnic this year and gave us a chance to unite as a school community on this important day, even though the oval was too wet to use. We saw a lot of engagement with the activities throughout the tour and were pleased to see our students showcasing their knowledge of The Tally Way (i.e. our positive behaviour and wellbeing program).
Thank you also to parents and caregivers for supporting this day by helping their children wear something orange to reflect our stand against bullying. Students were also given special custom-made bandanas as a memento, thanks to the support of the YMCA (our out of school hours care provider). Please remind your child to keep their bandana for next year or future events.
Reconciliation Week
Team Tally, the staff of Tallebudgera State School, work with intention and care to value and respect the cultures, histories and knowledge of Australian First Nations Peoples. We are committed to continuing to learn, connect and to act in the spirit of reconciliation for the benefit of all students.
This week is Reconciliation Week and students and staff have engaged in related learning opportunities. The Australian National Curriculum includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures as a cross-curriculum priority and states that this,
"…provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with the ability to see themselves, their identities and cultures reflected in the curriculum; and allows all students to engage in reconciliation, respect and recognition of the world’s oldest continuous living cultures."
Chaplaincy
Our Chaplain plays an important part in our school as another caring, friendly adult who is available to support students. Chappy Sophie recently joined our team while Chappy Steph is on maternity leave. Chappy Sophie has settled in well and has been connecting with our school community and students. Chappy Sophie is friendly and warm and students are enjoying getting to know her through her break time activities. Chappy Sophie is a qualified teacher with a passion for supporting the wellbeing of young people, so we are pleased that she can join us while our much loved Chappy Steph enjoys very valuable family time.
Disco
Yeehaw!!! There's a Country Disco this term and our P&C are busy planning and preparing and we are very excited!!!!. Thank you to our P&C for their support of this event!
Disco details are communicated via ClassDojo for parents and caregivers. The ticket cutoff date is final, so if you would like your child to attend you will need to purchase a ticket on time using Qkr. Late tickets will not be sold and there are no tickets at the door. We ask that parents and caregivers contact us before the cutoff date if they are experiencing financial difficulty. Remember, the Tally CommUNITY Day bandanas are a handy item for children to wear to the disco if they need something.
Team Tally must be dusting off their cowboy hats and brushing up on their boot scooting because many have generously volunteered their time to supervise the discos. Thanks Team Tally, they are absolute stars who go above and beyond for our students and community.
GRIP Leadership Conference
Last week, Ms Amy Stockbridge had the pleasure of accompanying 27 of our outstanding student leaders to the GRIP Leadership Conference. This event is designed specifically to equip students with practical, age-appropriate leadership skills they can apply right now in their roles at school. It was an inspiring and engaging day, filled with hands-on activities and thought-provoking sessions that challenged our students to think about the kind of leaders they want to be.
We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented our school -participating enthusiastically, reflecting thoughtfully, and showing genuine leadership throughout the day. We look forward to seeing them bring their ideas and newfound confidence into our school community.
Collaborative Planning
In Week 9, teaching teams will be provided additional time off class, working with our Curriculum Leaders to coordinate the educational programs and assessment for next term. This ensures that we have a high level of consistency and quality planning across all year levels. Effective and systematic curriculum delivery, teaching and assessment is not by chance, it is the result of extensive work behind the scenes and collaborative planning days are only one example.
Report Cards
Report cards will be emailed to parents and carers on Wednesday, 25 June and will provide an update of each student’s level of achievement, effort and behaviour. Parents and carers will be invited to attend progress interviews with teachers early next term.
We encourage parents and carers to read and discuss report cards with their children, with a focus on the amount of effort applied.
Please update our office if you have changed your email address.
Carparks and Parking
Onsite staff parking has been increased in order to free up the much needed parking near our school for parents and caregivers. We are thrilled that the upgrade to the carpark near the hall is now complete and this improvement has been achieved.
Work has commenced towards the development of parking on the site adjacent to Drop and Go and that is a complex and long term project that is reliant on the acquisition of the land. There is Government and Department of Education support for the progression of this project to provide more parking for our school community. Large scale, complex projects take a long time, even when they are actioned as a priority. The block is a flood zone, so there is significant planning required.
We recognise that parking around our school remains limited at this stage and encourage parents and carers to use Drop and Go as it is staffed until 3:30pm each day. It runs efficiently and those who arrive around 3:15pm are usually able to drive straight in with no waiting to collect their children. We emphasise safety over convenience and ask all members of our community to drive and park legally in our school zone. The area near administration is not a pick up or drop off zone and double parking is illegal and unsafe so we ask that parents and carers never do it.

We have been advised by one of our parents, that Tahnee, a mother in our school community is currently undergoing the treatment for cancer and her loved ones have set up two fundraisers.
