Sport: Boys Badminton

Runners-Up x 3

Three of our four teams finished Runner-Up at the School Sport Victoria Upper Hume Badminton tournament at the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre on Thursday.

The Seniors, Year 8 and Year 7 teams were all 2nd of 5 schools with 3-1 records, with the well-trained Grace Christian College Wodonga the only school to top them.

The Year 7s (Ollie Fisher, Dayne Jeffries, Zach Tamme and Joah Van Bergen) beat Catholic College Wodonga 4-2 (61-52), Victory Lutheran College 3-3 (57-54) and Wodonga Middle Years College 3-3 (56-50).

The Year 8's (Noah Anderson, River Mackinnon-Burman, Teo Valle and Jack Vincent) swept Victory 6-0 (69-33), Wodonga Middle 6-0 (55-19) and Catholic College 6-0 (66-29), and were good enough to get close to Grace CC (2-4, 53-60).

The Seniors (Mark Joseph Sitoy, Robbie Leadbetter, Ayato Mizuno and Kevin Shiju-Thomas) swept Catholic College 6-0 (66-23), beat Victory 4-2 (58-41) and then got Wodonga Senior Secondary College in a nailbiter 3-3 (52-51).

Japanese exhange student Mizuno, and Sitoy, won every match across the day apart from their Singles against Grace CC.

Our Intermediate team made up of all Year 9's (Jeremy Bagley, Lachlan Downing, Clarence Lampa, Hugh Spring and Zach Wills), who dominated both Upper Hume and Hume Region on their way to 5th in the State last year as Year 8s, went down 1-5 to strong Year 10s from Grace CC this year. They however beat Victory 3-3 (55-52) and wiped Wodonga Middle Years 6-0 (66-20) to finish with a 2-1 record.

Thanks to our 17 boys that played, all coaches, umpires and opponents.
