Year 11 Vocational Major Students

Explore Careers with Wangaratta Council

Our current Year 11 Vocational Major students recently had an exciting opportunity to explore a range of career pathways through a visit to the Wangaratta Council. This initiative was made possible thanks to the support of Annette Borradale from NE TRACKS LLEN and Clare Tucci from the Wangaratta Council.

The day began with an informative session on the Turf Management team, where students gained valuable insight into the qualifications and skills required to pursue a career in this field. They had the chance to ask questions and learn directly from staff about the diverse roles within the team.

Students then toured the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre (WSAC), where they discovered the wide variety of roles that keep the facility running smoothly — from lifeguards and café staff to fitness instructors and personal trainers. A highlight of the tour was viewing the impressive new facility extensions, including the state-of-the-art basketball show court.

The experience continued with a tour of the Council Offices, where students explored the meeting chamber and had the pleasure of meeting Rachel and Bree from the Youth Development team. Their passion for creating engaging events for the local community was both inspiring and informative.

The excursion concluded with a visit to the Council Depot, offering students a behind-the-scenes look at roles in road maintenance, gardening, and more. They were particularly fascinated by the heavy machinery used to maintain the region’s roads and public spaces.

This excursion provided valuable real-world insights into careers within local government and helped students better understand the range of vocational pathways available to them after school.
