Mr Irwin's Message

Hello Families and welcome to this week's newsletter. Apologies for no video this week as I am currently in Melbourne preparing for a day of professional learning!

Road Safety Reminder

At School Council I received some important feedback about some observations at drop-off and pickup times I need your assistance with.

Firstly, we need to be speaking to children riding bikes home about safe behaviour. Some students have been reported to be riding out onto the road quickly between cars (particularly over to the shop) or crossing at a non-designated crossing area. We will continue to reiterate safe and expected riding behaviour at school but need families to be doing this too. If you do witness an unsafe incident and know who the student is let the school know so we can support them.

Likewise, the No Standing parking area on Sutherland Street continues to be parked in. Students who cross to cars parked here are

Foundation Enrolment for 2026!

It is now time to submit an enrolment expression of interest for 2026 Foundation students.

Please visit our website to complete the webform:

Expressions of Interest - Teesdale Primary School

Enrolment forms will be emailed to eligible families and are due for return by Friday 25th July.

For further information about the enrolment process, please visit our website:

How to Enrol - Teesdale Primary School

Our process will be slightly tweaked this year as follows.

Previously we had conducted an information session in Term 2. Instead, this year we will happily conduct tours for interested families (these can be booked via contacting the office) and conduct a series of information sessions later in the year that align with transition dates.

Prior to submitting an Expression of Interest please consider your permanent place of residence and utilise the find my school website to determine that Teesdale is your local government school. As per recent years, enrolment demand and our student population growth mean we will only continue to accept enrolments from within our enrolment zone.

Head to the '2026 Foundation Enrolment' page of the newsletter for more information.

Curriculum Day

Yesterday staff were immersed in a day of learning around the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 and literacy practices that align with this. Ms Barnett led this work across the day and it was great to see the engagement of all staff in this work. The end result will be some tweaks in some literacy practice across the school that ensures we are maximising learning opportunities for students in the class.

Every year we conduct 4 pupil free days to support the learning of teachers and education support staff in the school. We are always grateful to our families for making alternative care arrangements on these days for students.

Where is Mr Irwin?

I love being at Teesdale Primary, but occasionally my Principal responsibilities draw me away, which will be the case over the next few weeks. Next week on Tuesday and Wednesday I will be attending the statewide Principal Conference in Melbourne, and today I am participating in a leadership program for experienced Principals at the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Learning. I try to minimise the time I have out of school, however the opportunity to better myself as a leader and ensure I am up to date with Department initiatives is important and highly beneficial. On these days Mr Lindsay and Ms Barnett are always on hand should the need arise.
