Indonesian for Prep students
Congratulations to Samuel and Noah for learning how to use Indonesian to say 12 different feeling words!
Year 2 – Unit of Inquiry – Relationships
The Year 2 students have had a wonderful start to the year with lots of exciting learning happening already! A particular focus has been on developing class routines, behaviour expectations and positive relationships. Students have participated in creating our class Essential Agreement and defining expected behaviours. Together, we have decided what needs to happen each day for our room to be a calm, safe and happy place for us all to be “ready to learn”.
Students have also been exploring friendship and ways to be a good friend as part of our first Unit of Inquiry for the year, Relationships. Being “friendship detectives” helped students observe ways that they and their peers work effectively with others in group situations. Our wall is now decorated with colourful “friendship flowers” that the students made to record their findings.
Our Buddies program is also underway, and we are very pleased to be getting to know our buddies in Year 6S. So far, the classes have spent time learning about each other, and students have shared their different perspectives about topics from their favourite food to their preferred place to play. Learning that other people may have different perspectives to us is an important aspect of our current Unit of Inquiry.
In Show and Tell, students have been sharing information about themselves, including their birth places and home languages. We have been challenged to learn to greet each other in languages including Polish, Chinese, Hindi and Urdu.
In the weeks ahead, Year 2 students will be exploring positive ways to deal with the disagreements and conflict that can happen in the playground and within their friendships.
All this learning is helping the students to become caring, open-minded, kind and collaborative people, and supports their growth in other academic subjects. We are very excited about the many learning opportunities that will be open to the amazing Year 2 students in the year ahead!

Birthdays and Shared Food (Repeat)
We love to celebrate birthdays at the College. Students are honoured by their teachers and also presented with a birthday certificate and small treat from Mrs Mahoney’s birthday box.
If you would like to (with no obligation) send something along to school to help your child celebrate in their class, we highly recommend a non-food treat such as a pencil, bouncy ball or similar. The teacher will facilitate the distribution with the birthday child during class time.
A plate of shared food is discouraged for hygiene reasons and to mitigate the risk of illness across a class group.
We also have a considerable number of students with food allergies in our classes and our policy on a day-to-day basis is no food sharing to reduce the risk of an allergic or anaphylactic reaction.
Please contact your child’s class teacher a few days prior to sending any food in to be shared so we can cater for the students who will not be able to enjoy the treat. It is highly recommended that any food items be individually packaged wherever possible and the list of ingredient provided.
