Year 6 Leadership

Last week, the Year 6 classes were involved in a Leadership Retreat run by facilitators from 24:7 Youth Ministries. This day focussed on the traits of leaders, how to recognise them and how to develop them in ourselves. By linking the fruits of the Holy Spirit to movie scenes featuring Marvel Superheroes, students were able to see these in action and were able to identify these in their own lives. This retreat day is the beginning of the St Helena’s Student Leadership program. Over the next few weeks, students will be able to nominate to join a range of ministry teams across the school to lead the school as well as a way to develop and grow their own skills.

Developing children's leadership skills through the Student Leadership program is crucial for their personal growth and future success. At this pivotal age, children are beginning to form their identities and understand their roles within their community. By participating in leadership initiatives, students learn essential qualities such as communication, teamwork, responsibility, and problem-solving. These skills not only benefit them academically but also prepare them for the challenges they'll face in higher education and the workforce.

Moreover, the Student Leadership program fosters a sense of empowerment and encourages young individuals to take initiative, make decisions, and positively influence their peers. All students participating in the program serve as role models for their peers, particularly the younger students within the school community.

As leaders, they embody values such as respect, kindness, and inclusivity, setting a positive example for others to follow. By recognizing the leadership potential in every student, regardless of their title or role, the program fosters a culture of collaboration and support where everyone is encouraged to contribute and make a difference.

This inclusive approach not only strengthens the sense of belonging within the school but also reinforces the idea that leadership is not confined to a select few but is a responsibility shared by all.
