A big year for music and theatre

The 2024 performing arts program is well underway and has smoothly transitioned follow some key staff changes. 

Wendy Harvey has moved to the position of Director of Performing Arts (previously Director of Student Leadership). All instrumental music program can be directed to Ms Harvey at Wendy.Harvey@education.vic.gov.au 

As well as the music, drama and theatre studies domains, Ms Harvey oversees the instrumental music teachers: 

Peter Blick – Percussion

Sue Cook – Brass & Cello

Nigel Maas – Saxophone

Claire McGann – Clarinet

Alexandra Mikhailova – Violin

Cristy Savage – Flute 

David Seedsman – Guitar

Curtis Spiers – Guitar

Blanka West – Voice

Bella Winter – Saxophone and Clarinet 

In another change Fiona Faulkes is now the contact for instrumental music administration support. 

Parents and students are reminded of the Instrumental Music and Ensemble policy.

Upcoming events

5pm, Monday 25 March, Autumn Twilight Concert in the Canteen Quadrangle. 

Parents are invited to our annual term 1 music concert with pieces from some of the bands, ensembles and choral groups. 

Top Class Theatre Studies 

Congratulations to Zoe Ancilleri, performing in Top Class Theatre Studies 2024. At the end of each year students who achieve outstanding grades for their VCE Theatre Studies monologue performance examinations are invited to audition for the Top Class series of performances at the Melbourne Recital Centre.  Zoe successfully auditioned for the event and will perform her monologue ‘Philocetes’ from the play ‘Paradise’ in April. Zoe completed Unit 4 Theatre Studies as a Year 11 student so is a current student at MGSC. It is the second year in a row that an MGSC student has been invited to performance at Top Class. Such incredibly talented students at our school. 

Oh my God you guys! 

Objections overruled! Legally Blonde is the 2024 all school production! Following song and choreography familiarisation sessions, auditions are well underway and the cast will be announced in coming weeks.
