Student Leadership

Grip Leadership Conference

On Tuesday 13 February, 13 members of the 2024 student leadership team from Years 8 - 11 accompanied Ms Lawler and Ms Dureau to experience an amazing leadership opportunity - the GRIP Leadership Conference.

We started our day by meeting everyone at Mentone Station at 7:30am. Although this was very early for most of us, we were all buzzing with excitement for what was to come! We caught the train to Southern Cross Station and then walked to the venue, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The group was welcomed by the main hosts of the conference as well as a large number of secondary school students from all over Victoria. For the rest of the day, we listened to inspirational leaders speak about some tips and tricks to assist us in the coming year. The conference sessions were very entertaining and filled with countless fun games and activities held throughout them including ‘Is It Cake?’, a dance off and a very intense screaming battle. The students were able to choose their own elective sessions. We also had a student from Deakin University come and talk to us about the opportunities she was given at the Uni and highlighting her favourite times and classes. The conference concluded with a raffle to win a $50 voucher and a Deakin pack, as well as a giant dance break.

As the fun day wrapped up, we headed back to Southern Cross Station in the scorching sun and started our journey back to school. When we reached Armadale, the storm rolled in and put our trip to a halt. None of the trains were running and the tram that we had been referred to didn’t end up existing! We were stuck in Armadale and ended up having to call parents to pick everyone up. Overall, this was an amazing opportunity for the students to learn new skills and we will definitely be implementing these into our daily lives! Big thanks to the school for organising us to go, Ms Dureau and Ms Lawler for taking us and dealing with the public transport issues and the parents who helped with the situation! 🙂
