FAITH MATTERS

Zero Discrimination Day

On Zero Discrimination Day, 1st March, we celebrate the right of everyone to live a full and productive life—and live it with dignity.

Zero Discrimination Day highlights how people can become informed about and promote inclusion, compassion, peace and above all, a movement for change.

Zero Discrimination Day is helping to create a global movement of solidarity to end all forms of discrimination.

Jesus actively broke down social and cultural barriers, reaching out to people who were marginalised or oppressed. He demonstrated love, compassion, and acceptance for all, regardless of their background. As His followers, we are called to do the same.

Jesus’ command to love one another is clear. Discrimination contradicts this command and fails to demonstrate the love of Christ to the world. Loving one another unconditionally is a powerful testament to our faith.

At St Mary MacKillop College, our Statement of Recognition clearly articulates that our community is one where all faiths, genders, sexualities and cultures are respected as we are all made in the image and likeness of God. Our college theme of intentional inclusivity also resonates quite strongly on this Zero Discrimination Day. We are all called to do our part in promoting a society that has a common goal of ending all forms of discrimination.

Loving God,

You are the source of human dignity, and it is in your image that we are created.

Pour out on us the spirit of love and compassion.

Enable us to reverence each person, to reach out to anyone in need,

to value and appreciate those who differ from us,

to share the resources of our nation,

to receive the gifts offered to us

by people from other cultures.

Grant that we may always promote

the justice and acceptance

that ensures lasting peace and racial harmony.

Help us to remember that we are one world and one family.

Amen.

Project Compassion boxes have arrived and have been distributed to all Homerooms for small donation collections. Project Compassion is the largest fundraiser from Caritas Australia. The aim is to raise much-needed funds to help alleviate poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity in the most vulnerable and marginalised communities in the world.

Staff and students are encouraged to donate what they can.

Year 12 Retreat Update!

The weather has provided many difficulties for the running of the Year 12 Retreat.

Although an inconvenience to us, we certainly keep in our thoughts and prayers for the many people who have lost their homes and belongings during the recent fires.

With the rescheduling of the Retreat to the last week of term, this means (hopefully) the weather is not as hot and dangerous and our senior students will have a positive end to what has been a busy term!
