PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

MRS MICHELLE HAEUSLER - PRINCIPAL

Term 1 is already halfway through and looking forward there is still so much to look forward to before the holidays. Unfortunately, we had to postpone our Year 12 Retreat and Year 7 Camp due to the risks associated with the Extreme and Catastrophic fire danger ratings. Our Year 12 students will now enjoy their Retreat in the last week of Term 1 and Year 7 will head off to Roses Gap in June.

School Advisory Council

The School Advisory Council (SAC) provides informed advice and community voice to the Principal and supports the Principal in their leadership responsibility for the school. The SAC supports the overall governance of DOBCEL and considers to and advice on important school matters to support the Principal and the strategic interest of the school.

The current membership of the School Advisory Council is Hollie Conlan (Chair), David Alderuccio, Scott Anderson, Alastair Mitton, Nicole Bail (Finance Committee), Michelle Haeusler (Principal), Catherine Howison (Deputy Principal), Nathan Lane (Deputy Principal: Teaching and Learning), Fr James Kerr (Parish Priest) and Tim O’Farrell (Education Consultant, Catholic Education Ballarat).

We are always open to new people joining the SAC. The SAC meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month and do not go beyond 90 minutes in duration.

If you are interested, please consider speaking with one of the SAC members or let me know of your interest and a SAC member can give you a call. If you would like to be considered for one of the positions, please email me at mhaeusler@mackillopsh.vic.edu.au.

Agriculture and Horticulture

This year the Year 12 and Year 9/10 Agriculture and Horticulture classes have embarked on the Victorian Merino Wether Challenge. On Monday 4th March, six Merino wethers will take up residence on our new school block on Gray Street. From Monday until the 28th August, the students will learn all they can about sheep, including handling and showing. On the 28th August, they will join with all other schools taking part in the challenge in Clunes and participate in a friendly competition and expo.

I look forward to sharing more news about this program in future newsletters.

Positions Advertised

In recent media, we have advertised several positions at the school. We require a Science Teacher, and appreciate any support from the community in finding the right person for this job.

We have also advertised for a Technology and Maintenance Assistant. This position would suit someone who enjoys working with young people and has experience in the Building or Carpentry fields. This position is for school terms only, so you would also enjoy time off during all school holidays. If you know of anyone interested in the position, please ask them to contact me at the school.
