VET SUBJECT ROUND-UP
MS KYLIE TOOHEY - VET COORDINATOR
Our Vocation Education and Training (VET) students who are completing their studies on-site are well into their Term 1 practical tasks.
Building and Construction
This week, the 1st Year Building and Construction students were able to smash up tiles all in the name of education as part of their demolition module. As part of this module, the practical lesson was for students to be able to practice removing tiles, before cleaning the surface and ensuring it was level in preparation for laying new tiles. A variety of tiles were supplied to the class, students were able to measure and cut the tiles to size to fill their boards.
Our 2nd Year Building and Construction students are building wooden step ladders, using minimal written plans. They have a prototype model from which they are required to measure and copy onto their work. Using a variety of power tools, students have been able to measure their step's height and angle before securing.
As part of their studies for their 3rd Year of Building and Construction, students are learning the correct methods to hang a door correctly.
Hospitality
1st Year Hospitality students have made their meatball subs. Students needed to make their meatballs and sauce. Whilst they were completing this, the 2nd Year Hospitality students were busy making their own mayonnaise/tartar sauce from scratch.
Sport and Recreation
1st Year Sport and Recreation students have been busy coaching the Primary School students for their upcoming Summer Sports. While the 2nd Year Sport and Recreation students have been working on their fitness regimes at the gym in our custom singlets.
Next fortnight we will focus on our students who complete their VET course off-site or virtually.
