Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour Support

Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour Support

All members of the school community have a significant role to play in supporting a whole school approach to positive behaviour. Where all members work collaboratively, each child and young person has the opportunity to fully participate, engage in the process of schooling and become a successful learner.

At Our Lady Star of the Sea we have six guiding principles that all the members of the school community are expected to adhere to:

  • Be Kind
  • Be Safe
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Responsible
  • Be Resilient
  • Be Ready

DOSCEL's Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour Support (WSAPBS) is a framework that enables the development of a positive, safe and supportive school environment in which students can learn and develop. The WSAPBS has been developed in the context of the teachings and beliefs of Catholic Social Teaching. The approach comprises Universal to Intensive support and includes identified features that promote learning and wellbeing for all students (see below). At the beginning of each year, students engage in a Safety Unit to explicitly teach the safety and behaviour expectations at Our Lady Star of the Sea. Students are supported to meet expectations at all stages of the Behaviour Support pyramid.  In cases involving violence towards another member of the community, leadership will contact parents to discuss further steps, this may include the child involved, going home to regulate.
