School Council Report
It was great to catch up again this week for our first School Council meeting since mid-March. We had a number of updates and follow-ups from Business arising from previous minutes and engaged in some detailed discussion about how we can encourage safer behaviour from the small group who seem to regularly double-park at pick-up times, despite many reminders about appropriate behaviour and traffic management. It is a concern to us, and we do not want to have an accident as a wake-up call to make a change.
We reviewed and passed a number of motions, including arrangements for student-led conferences in late June and the school camps in Canberra, Sovereign Hill, and Candlebark Farm.
We made a point of recognising the amazing support we have had from the PA, not just recently with funding to help furnish the new Library space but over the longer period, when their planning and hard work have resulted in some great events with a wonderful turnout. These occasions have helped to re-establish our POPS community following COVID-related interruptions, which now seem like a distant memory for many.
Mr Tanner tabled the March Treasurer's Report, and school finances remain strong. We also discussed some key payments and forecast elements for the rest of the calendar year.
Our Facilities subcommittee reported back on a number of initiatives, and we have a number of developments pending, all at different stages. The group also brainstormed to evolve a pool of ideas for incorporation into our medium to longer-range plans.
The Education subcommittee reviewed the Child Safety and Well-being Policy, particularly regarding a School-wide Positive Behaviour Support framework (SWPBS). The regular review of our policies not only keeps them fresh and relevant but also aims to continue to integrate them in order to generate both leverage and consistency.
As always, input is valued, and if anyone would like to attend a subcommittee meeting (whether as an interested observer or an active participant), they are always welcome—please let me or the Office know. I hope everyone is enjoying the recent lovely Autumn weather—it never lasts long enough!
