We wish all the mums, grandmothers, step mums and female special friends in our community a very special mother's day and hope that you spend some time with your loved ones on Sunday.

A special thank you to the St Michael's PFA for arranging the gifts for our Mother's Day stall today and always thinking about what we can do to make things special for our community.

Prayer

How special we are to have our mums and mother figures in our lives today. With the model of Mary, Word made flesh, the earthly Mother of Jesus, we have been shown the warmth of motherly love. How can we not turn our gaze toward her, who looks at us with sweetness and compassion. It’s no coincidence that the Son of God wanted to grow up with her and receive her loving care

The Church, in her wisdom, asks her children to be especially devoted to Mother Mary during this month and to be particularly grateful for all of her care.

Dear Mother Mary,

I come to you with a child's heart,

Seeking your love and gentle protection.

You who cradled Jesus in your arms,

Wrap me in your embrace so warm.

Teach me, dear Mother, to love as you do,

With kindness, patience, and grace anew.

Guide me in the footsteps of your Son,

That through your love, His will be done.

Bless me with your tender care,

Keep me safe, both near and far.

In your arms, I find solace and peace,

Your love, dear Mary, will never cease.

Thank you, Mary, for your gentleness divine,

For showing us the way to love, so fine.

In your loving arms, I find my rest,

With you, dear Mother, I am forever blessed.

Amen.

Camp Rumbug

Hopefully you were able to keep up with the Instagram posts last week while we were on our school camp. Our Year Five/Six students had an amazing time together, engaging in these adventure activities:

     Giant Swing

     Mud Run

     Initiatives and team building activities

     Raft building

     Canoeing

     Bushcraft

The learning that was gained whilst on camp are difficult to replicate in a classroom. Aside from building resilience and employing a growth mindset to try different things, we observed so many skills employed by students to engage in the activities successfully. Skills such as: tying different types of knots, problem solving, climbing, following physical instructions, risk taking, construction, balance, taking safety measures and so much more. I am so proud of all our Year Five/Six cohort of students for their perseverance and greatly enjoyed watching the fun they had.

Cross Country

Congratulations to the following students who qualified to enter the Glen Iris District Cross Country event which will be taking place next Tuesday 14th May at Nettleton Park, Glen Iris. We wish all our competitors well for the event!

National Walk Safely to School Day ~ Friday 10th May

TOMORROW, we invite and encourage all families to walk to school, whether it's all the way from home or from just around the corner. Any exercise is good exercise and reminds us that we need to engage in activity when we can. What we know through studies is that many children actually enjoy walking to school, despite all their groans and protests!! We will have a healthy fruit breakfast onsite upon your arrival to school so get out there and get walking. See you tomorrow for brekky!

Library Open Mondays

Don't forget our St Michael's library is open for families to visit on Monday afternoons from 3.10-3.30pm. Mrs Kate Borg will be present in there if you would like to borrow anything or just spend time looking with your child. We know the afternoons are so beautiful right now, but as we draw closer to Winter, you may like to pop in and see what we have in our library.

Inform & Empower Digital Safety sessions

Over the coming weeks all our classes will take part in Digital Safety webinars, run by Inform & Empower. These are engaging online sessions with remind the students about ways to remain safe online and what are their responsibilities online. Be sure to chat to your child about some of their learnings over the next few weeks.

Asthma Plans & Medication

At this time of year and with the changeover of seasons chances are children who suffer from asthma are likely to need their ventolins more regularly. We have also had smoke in the air recently, which can also make asthma flare up. We remind our families to please ensure that you have provided asthma medication that is within it's use by date along with updated asthma plans to the school office. All medication that is required to be administered during the school day must be accompanied by the appropriate forms in the original pharmacy packaging and will be administered by school staff.

Term 2 Winter Uniform Transition

Whilst we are experiencing some beautiful, warm weather at present, we are also noticing the cold mornings and the need for additional layering early in the day. We ask parents to consider the uniform that best suits the temperature each day at present until we hit the colder days, where we will need to fully move to Winter uniform.

This week the Gymnastics in PE lessons continued on Tuesday with our Year One/Two students. The children excitedly engaged in the lessons and learned some new skills at the same time.
