Principal Report

Final Days of 2025
We are moving into the final week of 2025 and have completed another amazing year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank students, staff and parents for your support throughout the year.
Our Year 10s have recently taken part in their final assembly, breakfast and celebration at Club DaVinci on Friday evening and last night we held our year six celebration evening. Next week we will hold our Awards Night, class parties, Activity Day, Lake Day, Pool Fun Day.
These events don’t run without an enormous amount of planning, organisation, and teamwork. I would like to acknowledge our wonderful teaching and support staff for their planning and organisation of these important celebrations. The office staff in particular provide enormous support with the preparation of reports, certificates, notes, and catering for these major events.
Awards Night 2025 Reminder
The annual Awards Night will once again be held at the Mildura Arts Centre and will take place on Tuesday 16th December.
Students receiving awards have been notified in recent days. All students receiving awards on the night are required to attend in school uniform. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Our awards evening acknowledges the contribution to our school and academic excellence of around ninety Primary and Secondary students each year.
Through the generous support of community-based organisations and businesses, we distribute over $4000 in cash and prizes to our award winners each year.
Our Awards Night relies heavily on the wonderful support of local businesses, service groups and families who generously sponsor many of the awards. Their support is greatly appreciated by the school and highly valued by the recipients of the awards.
Retirement News
In 2026, one of our long serving staff members will be retiring from our Administration Team after many years in working across local schools in Sunraysia, and significantly for us, at Merbein PS (Jenner Street) and Merbein P-10. Judy Hunyadi will be taking LSL for the first part of the year but then retiring from her outstanding work in the main office. On behalf of the students and staff at Merbein P-10, I would like to thank Judy for her magnificent contribution to our college.
Whilst Judy Donnelly will still be with us at Merbein P-10 in Term 1, she will be retiring at the end of Term 1 2026. I know more will be said then, but I would like to acknowledge the great work Judy has done to support students at our school over many years and wish her well for her upcoming retirement.
New Role in 2026
After many years at Merbein SC/Merbein P-10 College, Scott Johnson has taken up the opportunity of a new role at Mildura Senior College in 2026. On behalf of the students and staff at Merbein P-10, I would like to thank Scott for a wonderful contribution to our college over this time.
Finally, I would like to sincerely thank the staff, students and parents at Merbein P-10 College for the support you have given me throughout my seven years as Principal. I am extremely proud of the work we have done during this time to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes and wish Dennis Mitchell all the best in his role as Acting Principal in 2026.
Have a safe and happy Christmas break!
