Early Learning Centre

Our Learning - Weeks 2-3

The Outcomes are based on the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF). The VEYLDF is a curriculum framework designed for early childhood education in Victoria, focusing on children birth to eight years.

Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity

Children have begun settling into Kinder as they are able to use their home language to express themselves and be understood. Educators who speak multiple languages support children’s communication and help them feel safe and connected. Some children are new to the service, while others are returning but adjusting to different rooms. Educators work together to support each child’s smooth and secure transition as they settle into the Kinder routine. Through consistent relationships with familiar educators, children are beginning to build secure attachments as they adjust to the service and their new rooms.

Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world

Through small group experiences, children are beginning to engage with one another and form connections. Using “About Me” information, educators and children are learning more about each other, noticing shared interests while also exploring and respecting different ways of being.

Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing

Children are becoming more engaged in the program and familiar with daily routines. Children are supported in the predictability through visual routines. They are showing growing enthusiasm for physical play, beginning to recognise and communicate their body’s needs, and practising good hygiene while learning to use play spaces safely and consider the wellbeing of themselves and others.

Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners

Children are settling into kindergarten and becoming confident in exploring the open-ended play and learning spaces available both indoors and outdoors. Children are able to choose indoor or outdoor play. They are curious participants in their learning as they engage in play and learn how to respectfully engage with the materials as well as one another through small group games and spaces set up for smaller group sizes..

Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators

Children are beginning to engage in enjoyable interactions with one another, using both words and body language to share ideas and play together. As they get to know each other, they are learning to communicate respectfully, recognise different ways people express themselves, and respond to one another in shared spaces.

Inquiry: Healthy choices, Healthy me.

An inquiry into:

  • Daily habits and routines
  • How the choices we make affect our health
  • What it means to have a balanced lifestyle

Over the course of the term, children will:

  • Develop their emerging autonomy, inter-dependence, resilience and sense of agency
  • Develop knowledgeable and confident self-identities
  • Express emotions and views constructively
