Year 3 Update

Our Learning – Weeks 2&3
English
-In Spelling, students will learn about the prefix dis- and the Latin root /tract/. They will learn what these mean, and build words using them.
-Students will learn about how authors build descriptions in narratives through the use of expanded noun phrases. They will look at how descriptive language helps us visualise while reading.
-Students will learn about the structure of narratives and write their own narratives that include an orientation, problem and solution.
Maths
-Students are engaging in Daily Review where we review the learning they completed previously about a range of mathematics topics.
-Students will practise making larger numbers (up to five digits) and writing them in many forms, such as standard form, place value form, and word form.
-Students will work on using number lines to compare and order numbers. They will learn how to benchmark the halfway mark and look for the numbers they are close to.
SEL
-Students participated in the Positive Start program to build their connections, settle into school and refresh our values and routines.
-Students are building their emotional literacy through our Respectful Relationships lessons. These focus on what emotions look like, emotional triggers and our emotions across a school day.
Inquiry
-Students are learning about identify and belonging. We are looking at our similarities and differences, and how these influence our friendships and help us belong.
