Year 1 Update

The Year One students have settled beautifully into the new school year and have shown great enthusiasm for learning. Over the first two weeks, our focus has been on building strong connections within the classroom, with students getting to know their teachers and forming positive relationships with their peers while setting clear and consistent routines.
Our Learning - Weeks 2 &3
In English, students will: - revise the digraphs learnt in Stage 6 (sh, wh, ph, ng, ch, tch, th). - understand sentence structure - group of words that makes sense and shares one clear idea. - retell a story focusing on the characters, settling and beginning, middle and end. - read and write one and two syllable ai and ay words. - to understand and identify naming words (nouns) and doing words (verbs) in texts and use them in a sentence.

In Mathematics, students will: -compare numbers and say which number is more and which is less. - place numbers on number lines using what they are close to and halfway marks to guide estimation. - figure out one more and one less than your starting number.

In Inquiry students will: - identify and describe our personal characteristics. - describe physical and social changes as we grow. - describe our family and identify different types of families. - learn how families help us grow and feel safe.

In S.E.L (Social, Emotional, Learing), students will: - name some emotions students can experience at school. - identify emotions through body language. - draw a picture which shows a cause or trigger to feel a particular emotion. - share pictures with classmates to help them understand how people might feel in certain situations. |
News and Reminders:
- Monday 9th Feb - Meet the Teacher 3:30- 4:40pm in your child's classroom.
- Thursday 19th Feb - School Photo Day
- Please make sure your child brings along their school hat each day. Children without a hat will spend recess and lunch playing in shaded areas or in the Wellbeing room.
- If your child still has their blue reader bag at home, we’d appreciate it being sent into the classroom so they’re ready when take‑home reading begins in the next few weeks.
- Library borrowing will start in Week 3, so please remember to send your child’s library bag to school on their scheduled library day.
