Prep Update

Our Learning for Weeks 2-3
English The Preps will start to further develop their phonological awareness and how to read and write different phonemes. We also encourage creating a reading routine with your child. This can be at a time that suits you (before bed, before or after dinner). We understand life is busy but reading with your child is a great way to support their reading development.
Maths - To support the Prep's transition, we will be focusing on helping them learn and participate in the daily routines of school. They will begin to expand their understanding of the months of the year, the days of the week and dates. - They will continue to develop their number sense and counting using a 100 days of school chart. This will help the children to see how long they have been at school for and when it is time to celebrate their amazing achievement of being at school for 100 days. - They will begin to learn place value and how to form digits up to 6.
Inquiry In Term 1, Preps will be learning about Family and what that can mean and look like to different families within our community. This unit will help to support our Prep's understanding and acceptance of others within the school and allow them to get to know their peers and teachers better.
SEL Last week, the Preps did a brilliant job of their one on one interviews with their teachers. There were so many excited, smiling faces, which was so nice to see. We loved meeting all the kids and their families and we are all so excited for the year ahead. Over the next few weeks, our main focus will be on ensuring a positive start for your child. We want to ensure that every child entering Prep transitions smoothly and happily into the daily routines of school. It is our priority to ensure that they feel safe, secure and comfortable with their new teachers, peers and learning environments. |
