Learning and Teaching

SENIOR SPORTS
GRADE 3/4’s SPORT
The students consistently demonstrate excellent listening skills and a strong motivation during their sports rotations. Their enthusiasm has positively impacted both their peers and us as coaches.
BIKE EDUCATION
WEEK 10 – SESSION 5
The fifth graders are becoming familiar with the following aspects:
Reviewing the safety protocols from all sessions and to ensure that the students are well-acquainted with them.
Being able to ride with a partner safely and then returning to ride singular.
Continually communicating to each other and making sure every student understands the command.
4. The students will do the above activities in an enjoyable manner, simulating the experience of riding their bicycles on the road while prioritising safety.
It is essential for the students to communicate effectively with one another, ensuring that everyone appreciates the experience of cycling. Additionally, this approach will help the students build confidence in their understanding of what to anticipate while riding their bikes.

Visual Art News
As the school year draws to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all our students on the enthusiasm, effort and interest they have shown in the Visual Art lessons this year with Katherine and myself.
It has been a pleasure to see our students develop as artists and show appreciation of other artists’ work. Our young artists are strongly encouraged over the holidays to continue to practise their art skills. We look forward to hearing or seeing how they explored art these holidays when they return to school next year.
Housekeeping:
Just a reminder for students to wear an art smock during Visual Art lessons next year. A buttoned shirt parents/ carers no longer need or an art smock that can be worn by the students for the whole year is suggested.
Also, if you have coloured scrapbook paper, wrapping paper, patterned paper (preferably different shades of green) that you would like to offer for art projects at SFS, please send it to Melissa. Thanking you kindly!
Current Art Competition:
Thank you to the students, and the support of their parents, for the dedicated time this term to produce well thought-out and creative art pieces to enter the Catholic Education Week 2026 Creative Arts Exhibition. The enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to be challenged artistically as individuals and as pairs enabled the students last week to enter five impressive submissions, linking to the Catholic Education Week 2026 theme - Christ beside me: Walking in the footsteps of Saint Patrick. We will share updates of the next stage as soon as we are notified.
Merry Christmas and keep on making the spark in your art grow!
Peak Percentages Quiz:
All three Learning Spaces began our quiz with some funny, corny maths jokes to set a light-hearted mood.
Students then had to complete a set of six maths questions, working both independently and as a supportive team. Each student was responsible for solving at least two questions, while their teammates could assist, guide, and share strategies when needed.
The activity focused on applying their understanding of percentages, fractions, and decimals, encouraging collaboration, clear communication, and confidence with key number concepts.
Collaborating with students from across the learning spaces helped students see different ways of thinking and solving problems.
Everyone learns maths concepts differently, so observing and sharing new strategies can make you more confident and flexible. Peer-teaching also strengthens your understanding because by learning to explain an idea to someone else, you begin to understand it more deeply yourself.
When students work together, they strengthen their teamwork and communication skills, creating a learning environment where maths feels more approachable and supportive, and far less intimidating.
