KLA Feature - Languages

Students in the Languages KLA have had a great second semester developing language skills and experiencing real life opportunities to use their language skills.

Most excitedly, ten of our Japanese language students in Years 9, 10 and 11 experienced the “trip of a lifetime” when they participated in the 2025 CCC Japan Study Tour. Together with the tour leaders, myself and Mrs Leanne Smith, the students spent two weeks in Japan enjoying travelling and experiencing many beautiful places in Japan. The highlight of the trip was spending 5 days at our sister school, Tokyo Junshin. Students attended school and also had a wonderful time with their host families. The girls were excellent travellers and ambassadors of our school and country.

Two Year 10 students, Ysabelle and Navroop, were “left behind” to complete a term exchange at our sister school. They both have lovely host families and quickly felt at ease. They have been enjoying school with Ysaeblle saying, “all the students are INCREDIBLY nice and do their best to help. In my class, everyone is friends with everyone, which has made school more fun”. They have also been participating in extra curricular activities. Navroop reports, “I do handbells on Thursdays, and for clubs I usually do badminton on Thursdays if I have the energy and then get home at 6:30pm” Incredibly it is nearly time for them to return home and we can’t wait to hear all about their experiences.

Year 7 students put their language skills to the test by creating and performing restaurant role plays where one student played the role of the server and the others were customers. The students practiced hard so they could confidently perform their lines!

Year 9 students have been creating their own original anime characters and writing about them in Japanese while Year 10 have been writing travel articles. Year 10 students also received a “special mention” in the 2025 VideoMatsuri Japanese language short film competition.

The school recently hosted 22 students from Akita Minami High School and many students have the opportunity to try out their communication skills with the visitors. Many thanks to all of the families in our school community who hosted our visitors.

We are currently still appealing for another host family to host one of our Term 1 exchange students in 2026. If you would like more information or are keen to host, please complete this register of interest or contact myself.
