Congratulations to all of our Thursday sport teams and coaches on your efforts and achievements in Season 3.

Year 8 House Sport

During the first half of Term 4, Year 8 students participated in a structured touch football program as part of their Thursday afternoon sport session. The games were held weekly at Ched Towns reserve, offering a friendly yet competitive space in their local community.

Over the five week Round Robin tournament, students demonstrated consistent growth in both of their understanding of the game and their technical performance. We started the term off with a focus on building confidence in skills such as passing, field positioning, and communication. Further into the term, it was evident that these skills led to effective offensive and defensive strategies.

A notable strength throughout the tournament was the students’ teamwork. Extensive support was offered between players in high pressure moments, communication was effective, and deft decision making proved to be the skills that led homeroom teams to victory.

It was remarkable to see how within these first five weeks of the term, that students developed a greater sense of sportsmanship and resilience, creating a lively and cooperative sense of community with their peers.

Special Interest Sports Program – Learning Beyond the Classroom

Our Special Interest Sports (SIS) program continues to provide students with rich, hands-on learning opportunities across a variety of practical subjects. This term, students have demonstrated outstanding teamwork, responsibility, and community spirit through their involvement in Agriculture, Food Technology, Textiles, and our social justice initiatives.

Agriculture – Caring for Our Farm Community

Agriculture students have taken great pride in maintaining the school farm and garden beds. Their daily tasks have included watering crops, managing garden maintenance, and ensuring the wellbeing of all our animals. A particular highlight has been caring for our chickens, which are being specially prepared for entry into the upcoming Sydney Royal Easter Show competition. Students have been monitoring their growth, recording feed intake, and observing behaviour to ensure the birds are healthy, strong, and competition-ready.

Food Technology – Cooking with Purpose

In Food Technology, students have been using their skills to support others in the community. They have thoughtfully baked and donated batches of freshly made muffins to Mama Lana’s Community Foundation, Pay It Forward, and the Vinnies Van. This initiative not only builds practical cooking skills but also fosters empathy and social awareness, reminding students of the impact their talents can have on those experiencing hardship.

Textiles – Creativity in Action

This term, Year 10 students have been developing their sewing skills by creating zippered box pouches with enclosed seams. Through this project, they have learned techniques such as threading a machine, inserting zippers, and constructing three-dimensional forms. Their focus and persistence have resulted in beautifully finished pouches and growing confidence in their craftsmanship.
