Enjoyment at Preschool

The children are counting down the weeks as we move towards the end of the term and this preschool year. We are using Term 4 to create individual goals that help each child to transition to school. One goal for each child focusses on what they want to achieve before they finish preschool. Many children are very insightful about what they can do and what they are learning. It is wonderful to hear the children's voices on what is important to them as a preschooler. This has ranged from playing in a favourite area, to being able to use the fire pole and being able to say good-bye at the end. We are using this term to ensure that the children really enjoy their time at preschool and this is evident when they hurry over to their favourite corner inside, or find a friend and rush off outside to dig in the sandpit, play a chasing game, or start cooking in the mud kitchen. They all enjoy learning about the world around them by exploring, talking and creating games. Recently we have been able to harvest and taste a mulberry! Which had given so many children much enjoyment both in being able to collect them and then taste them - the discussions and smiles on this topic have been priceless! The Early Years Learning Framework focusses on being, belonging and becoming. This term it is clear that the preschool children are enjoying being a child, ensuring everyone belongs to the group and they are also getting ready for big school.
