Tasmanian Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast
FRONT COVER: 100 Days of Kinder! - See Primary page for more!
This morning, Southern Christian College staff and Secondary Leadership students were invited to the Tasmanian Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast. The event brings together like-minded people from across Tasmania to pray for our State, our leaders, parliamentarians, businesses, schools, communities, and community organisations, our families, youth, and children.
Each year, a recognised public figure who has made a significant contribution to the community is a guest speaker at the breakfast. This year, the guest speaker is John Kamara, a humanitarian and co-founder of the Culturally Diverse Alliance of Tasmania and African Communities Council of Tasmania. John Kamara escaped war-torn Sierra Leone 19 years ago and started a new life in Tasmania in 2004. He now does all he can to assist migrants, refugees and people from culturally diverse communities. John and his wife Mavis have established Kamara's Heart Foundation, a charity to assist children in Sierra Leone. John believes that 'the opportunity to start a new life in Australia produced many feelings of hope and gratitude, but also of sadness and anxiety. I was faced with a world I knew nothing about. Everything about daily living had to be relearned.'
The members enjoyed a morning of Prayer and devotion together.
At lunchtime yesterday, our Grade 10 leaders hosted a BBQ sausage sizzle to fundraise for the Grade 10 formal dinner next month. All students throughout the school were invited to purchase lunch and our Grade 10 students worked hard to ensure hot lunches were sent out. The hot lunches were very welcome on a colder day.
Thank you to Mr Witcomb for organising the event and thank you to everyone who helped to raise funds by purchasing a sausage!
Get ready for an unforgettable night at the Secondary School Arts Showcase, where growth, God, and boundless creativity converge! We would like to draw your attention to the change in date for the Huon and Channel Athletics Carnival which has now been changed to Friday 10 November (originally booked for 8 November). A Consent2Go invitation will go out to all Primary students who showed interest in attending and participating in the event.
The Infant Celebration Event was listed twice on the copy sent home to families. The correct date is Wednesday 29 November (NOT 5 Dec).
Congratulations to Rory and Tarryn on the birth of their precious baby girl, Jasmine. Mr Campbell said, "She's VERY good at putting her hand up" and, "Thank you for your prayers and encouragement. Praise be to God Almighty!"
Please continue to remember them in your prayers as they adjust to the busy life of parenting.
Today we were very excited to have them visit the College!
Summer Uniform (Repeat)
Term 4 is summer uniform time.
