Zoo Excursion

Unit 2 Biology Zoo Excursion

On Friday 20th October the Unit 2 Biology students set off for a full day at Melbourne Zoo. It was a beautiful sunny day, and we were extremely fortunate to see the lions and the snow leopards in the height of their activity.

As part of the student's study of adaptation for survival they discovered the structural, physiological and behavioural adaptations of the Southern Corroboree Frog. They also learned about the threats it faces, including a global fungal infection, and the bioethics that are considered in captive breeding programs.  Students then utilised their key science skills to collect and analyse data related to the behaviours of butterflies in the Melbourne Zoo Butterfly House.
