LSC & Raise: In School Mentoring Opportunity (Ismo)

The Wellbeing Team at Lalor Secondary College in partnership with the Raise Foundation had another positive and exciting year delivering the ‘In School Mentoring opportunity’ (Ismo).

Raise Foundation is a registered Australian charity which improves the lives of young people in our community by providing school and community-based mentoring programs and personal development workshops. Raise put into practice the idea that it takes a village to raise a child.

Ismo focus’ on helping young people make informed choices, improve their relationships, advance their wellbeing and coping strategies, increase their self-confidence, identify, and achieve their goals, and engage in further education and employment.

Each program was coordinated by a qualified program counsellor who facilitated a group of mentors into the school for approximately 1.5 hours each week. The program counsellor in collaboration with the Wellbeing Team facilitated one-on-on mentoring, followed by group supervision for mentors.

Ismo has now been implemented and delivered to students at our college for seven consecutive years where students in year 7, 8, 9 & 10 benefited from having a neutral positive role model in their lives and were invited to participate in the wellbeing focused initiative; whilst wellbeing staff provided active supervision and help facilitate the program.

A BIG thank you to everyone at the Raise Foundation, especially Program Counsellor, Kate Culy, and Program Manager, Angelina Cirrelli-Salomone for making the program such a positive and meaningful wellbeing experience.

With Love & Gratitude,

WELLBEING TEAM
