Region year 8 boys table tennis - Wednesday 17th October
On Wednesday 17th of October, the year 8 boys table tennis team competed in the Eastern Region finals at Kilsyth Stadium. The players were Joseph L, Yong Rui F, Andy Z and Matthias T, with Kenneth W and Brian L as subsitutes. The team competed against the best schools in the east of Melbourne, including Box Hill HS, Ringwood SC and East Doncaster SC. In the end, Highvale progressed through the group, semi final and finally made it to the grand final, against Ringwood SC. It came down to the final doubles match to determine the winner. Ultimately Highvale came up just short, losing by one set. A great achievement by the team. They will be back at the next competition bigger and better. Thanks to the coach Allister C.

Disc Golf
Year 9 and 10 students in the PE elective ‘Active for Life’ were fortunate to participate in a Disc Golf incursion this week. The Melbourne Disc Golf Club (MDGC) ran a couple of sessions where students learnt about correct grip, throwing techniques and game play.
Professional disc golfer David Perry, currently ranked #2 in Australia, come along to share some tips for driving (long distance throws) and we loved watching his amazing skills in action.
Looking for a fun (and free) family activity?
There are lots of free Disc Golf courses around for you and your family and friends to try! Discs (frisbees) can be borrowed (just like a book) from Doncaster library. Some courses to try out are:

On Friday 3rd November, we opened the Community Centre up to all Highvale students at lunchtime to participate in a one-off Zumba session! We had a slow start with students curious, but a little too nervous to step outside of their comfort zone to try something new. However, with some gentle encouragement from staff and their friends they embraced their vulnerabilities and gave it a try!
We had students from all Year Levels spend most of their lunchtime moving their bodies to some great music tunes, smiling, laughing and having a good time! It really was a great atmosphere and based on some student feedback, something Highvale will definitely offer in the future! Thank you to Mrs Mann, Mrs Gomes and Madame Moore for also getting involved.
