Have you noticed bicycles arriving at school in the past few days?  Mr Klan has started taking Bike Education Lessons with the Years 5/6 students as part of their PE lessons. They are being taught a range of bike skills in preparation for their ‘Celebration Day’ on Wednesday 6th December when they will get to ride their bikes on the bike track on North Campus.

2024 Preps have started their transition to school. On Wednesday 18th October, the Prep 2024 Parents attended the Parent Information Session. The new preps who are not at Bayside ELC had their first visit to their Prep classroom on Tuesday 24th October. By the end of the hour session, they were all involved in playing with different toys and materials. Play dough was very popular!

2023 Prep Student Dinner

Last Thursday 26th October the Prep Dinner was held  in G-Block Gym. There were many excited students who embraced the opportunity to eat a meal without their parents. Thank you to all the staff and parents who helped to make this event a success.

Community Afternoon Tea

On Wednesday 1st November there will be an afternoon tea in G-Block, organised by the Bayside Family Network.  This afternoon time slot is being trialled to see whether a larger number of parents find this time convenient.  If possible, come along to school a little earlier, and enjoy a time of catching up with other parents.

Icypoles

The student leaders sell icypoles for $1.00 on a Wednesday to Friday at lunchtimes, outside the LOTE room.  Correct change would be appreciated.

Sunhats

A reminder that College sunhats are compulsory for all outdoor activities in Term 4, so please make sure that students have their sunhats at school.

Australian Academic Services

The Australian Academic Testing (formally Allwell) for Year 2,4 and 6 students will be held on Monday 20th November.

2024 Planning

In the next few weeks, the process of compiling classes for 2023 will be occurring and decisions about placements will be based on maximising student learning and social dynamics.

God Bless,

Mrs Glenys Bailey

Bayside Raiders - Primary Players Highlights

We have had an excellent season. On a Monday we have basketball training with our coaches Rishe, the two Lees! We perform drills bouncing the ball. The first game of the season we won and we got to a new level and we are now in level 8. Last season, we were in level 7. The matches are on a Saturday morning and the game starts at 8am, 10am and 11:15am. We have to have a big breakfast!  - Jobe

In basketball we help with skills and passing. We show how good we are with the team , we can shoot from far, we can’t stand still, we should always be moving. When someone in the team passes the ball to us we run to the other side, then they can have the ball in their hands, someone can take the ball off you so you have to be quick and alert. - Wyatt

We have sportsmanship awards and in that we like playing basketball because we have everyone in our team who love basketball. We improve every time we play. I love basketball! - Josiah

I love trying to shoot the ball into the hoop. It is such a fun game. I love winning! - Joshua

I play for the under 10’s even though I am 7. We have won all 3 games of the season by about 20 points and we are on the top of the ladder!  - Dexter

1/2J Update

My class spontaneously broke into the Happy Birthday song for Mr Manning on Wednesday when he entered the classroom with gifts of balloons! We continue our theme on amazing animals.

Show and Tell seems to have digressed and taken a new dimension with students bringing in ikea bags filled with animal soft toys from their bedrooms ( sorry parents!!!) When we finish our tasks we complete fact pages of  animals which they have loved and the artistic talent is impressive. This week we partnered up with the Year 11 senior students and walked over to the North campus to get up close and personal with the animals. Thank you Mr Siede for organising such a fabulous experience!

3/4K Assembly

3/4 Excursion to Ripponlea

On Wednesday 18th October, the 3/4s went on an excursion to Rippon Lea Estate which is a mansion that is 155 years old. We went there because we are learning about Victoria: then and now. When we arrived, a lady named Bronwyn told us about the exciting activities we were going to be involved in while we were eating our snack. These included: a tour of the Mansion (this was so fun), creature catcher (in the wild), olden day washing (very messy) and playing old games in the beautiful sunshine. At the end of the day we all headed back to school on the bus. The 3/4s really enjoyed our day at Rippon Lea Estate, but were all looking forward to a good night's sleep!

3/4T Visit the ELC

On Monday 16th October, 3/4T got to visit the ELC. Everyone was so excited and when we got there we all walked in quietly and got in a line. Mrs Chester introduced us to the ELC4 students and we all got to read them stories from our classroom. After a little while, we were able to play some games and do activities with them. We had lots of fun and we hope to visit them again soon!

3/4 Maths Fun

Students in Years 3/4 have been learning about Capacity and Volume in Maths recently.  What better way to learn about and explore these concepts than with a variety of measuring containers and water on a delightfully sunny day!  Students made predictions about the capacity of each container and then worked together to see if their estimations were accurate. Daisy in 3/4T wanted to know “Why can’t all maths lessons be outside because this is so much fun!”

5/6 Forensic Science Incursion

The 5/6 students have become detectives over the last few weeks as they have embarked on solving forensic science investigations. They have explored fingerprints and their unique patterns, formulas to calculate the height of a person based on the length of particular bones, and what a good alibi is. Detective work requires persistence, patience and a lot of problem solving!

Footy Rap

I play footy,

In an oodie.

Lining up, would he?

Could he?

He’s only a rookie,

And he’s wearing an oodie.

Love

The relationship that I have with my Father above,

Is something that is unconditional love.

The things that he has given me,

Are to let me choose and set me free.

He is the one who makes me feel,

Like I am his and that is real.

For he is all that I am,

His little child, his little lamb.

I hope many people know the love,

From my God in the heavens above.

After receiving a very disappointing answer from her brother,

Stacy skips down the garden to ask her mother;

“Oh please! Pretty please will you play ball with me?”

“Im sorry but no, I've too many chores you see,”

After a failed attempt to find a ball buddy,

She spots Mean Sam finding it quite funny.

As Stacy eventually shooed away Mean Sam,

A thought popped into her head, Wah-zam!

“I don’t need a ball buddy!” She said as she jumped,

And then skipped to the street, feeling quite pumped.

Stacy then kicked to ball over and over again,

But accidentally kicked too far and… it fell into the drain!

Stacy jolted to her ball that was rolling towards the pipes

She quickly went to catch her ball, gleaming with stripes.

And then… gotcha! Stacy had saved her ball from the drain,

Feeling accomplished, though she never played that game again

A Sonnet of A Tree

Sometimes you’re not noticed through the bustle,

On a hot day, you’re refreshing, soothing.

A calming, peaceful, relaxing rustle,

Your dappled shade is freshening and cooling.

Spindly, yet strong and courageously brave,

You are so generous, little young tree.

We have not much to give, but yet you gave,

You’re working always, inexhaustibly.

You get chopped for your wood, though it’s unfair,

And sometimes your burn, down, down to the ground.

After that, you are used to make a stair,

And all you will be is a lonely mound.

You give us oxygen, we are thankful.

We love you dearly, little, tiny tree.

Amy Jones

My Mother

She is always there to understand me,

She is kind and asks all my troubles.

She’s welcoming as a warm cup of tea,

While I’m near her my happiness doubles.

My mum supports me in all my sports,

She drives me wherever I need to be,

And congratulates me on good reports.

My mum supports me and fills me with glea.

Except for those bad days that aren’t so good,

I really wish I could restart the day,

Our yells are heard around the neighbourhood,

I wish the bad feelings would go away.

But in the end I forgive you mother,

I hope I’m not too much of a bother.

Yellow

Yellow looks like children playing hide-and-seek

Yellow sounds like the lively laughter of a family sitting down for dinner

Yellow smells like the sweet pollen of a daffodil

Yellow tastes like freshly poured sugary lemonade

Yellow feels like warm sun beaming down on a smiling face

Yellow is joy

Footy Poem

Aussie Rules brings our nation together

And when we are In all this crazy rain

We play our game no matter the weather

It’s still fun, this is our favourite game

We always see the Granny in the house

We are huddled together on the couch

Before the bounce we’re quiet like a mouse

Around three quarter time we start to slouch

And then we start to catch on fire

But now we only have a bit of time

Then our best player takes a big flyer

But I guess it wasn’t his time to shine

He missed from only 30 metres out

Right In front of goals it put him to shame

It made us so angry we want to shout

But In the end he had to take the blame

Mother’s are as busy as a honey bee, they give you breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

They supply my every need.

They are like a robot maid, because of the way that they help me every day.

The feeling I get around her is warm, like a hot chocolate on a cold, winter day.

They are like a cheetah running to prey, if I have hurt myself they are always there to help.

They look as simply stunning as a shining rainbow butterfly, on a summer day.

They are wonderful, like a colourful sunset over the ocean.

They can’t be replaced.

Without them, it would be like a black hole in our hearts, pulling out all the love and comfort.

We would be like a lake with no water, a tree with no leaves or fruit.

We would be empty.

With nothing to fill the gap, no icing to fix the cake, no cherry on top.

With them the storm in our heart is calm, without the storm is unleashed a raging power in our world.

We may daydream about them, but nothing can replace.

They are as loving as love itself, they forgive but the punishments are fair.

Mother’s are the sweet silence in the storm.

They are as intelligent as a cat, and as warm as a dog.

They do not leave you, they are always in our heart.

Mother’s are faithful like puppies from birth.

They have entered the storm, but we are the eye for them.

Mother’s are wonderful.

Nature

In Nature plants grow,

But often it goes slow,

It lives out in the sun,

That is where it has fun,

Their colours are very bright,

Sometimes it has quite the height,

There are flowers, trees and fruit,

There are animals, bugs and loot,

In nature I feel very calm,

There is lots of this on a farm,

Nature helps humans and animals live,

So we should thank God for what he gives.

Happiness

Happiness is the sound of children giggling and birds singing,

Happiness feels like a friend giving you a comforting hug,

Happiness is as warm as drinking hot chocolate in your PJ’s,

Happiness tastes like the thick icing on a freshly baked cupcake,

Happiness looks like children lively playing in the enthusiastic sun,

Happiness smells like newly planted flowers in a luminous garden bed,

Happiness is worth having in your life.
