Deputy Principal

Mr Daniel Lapolla

Doyle Wing

The start of Term 4 has seen the official use of Doyle Wing commence, with our Year 10 cohort. We are extremely blessed to have these facilities with our Year 10s being the recipients. In our work to build and foster our senior school model, our Year 10 and 11 are now located in a senior precinct of the College. Heads of Departments are also located within this space to provide opportunities for students to seek advice or assistance where required.

Opportunities For Our Boys

I would like to take this opportunity to highlight the work of Mr Andrew Harrison - Head of Digital Technologies. From the image below you can see the number of boys engaging during lunchtime this week and a group of keen gamers utilising our new IT setup within the Doyle Wing. There is much on offer during recess and lunchtime which is often provided as an extra for staff who go above and beyond. The music department continuously have students practicing and the Digital Technologies Department quite often have boys working on additional projects during these times. All of which cannot happen without the dedicated staff we have at SVC.

EREA School Renewal Process

Last week I had the opportunity to be involved in the school renewal process of one of our fellow EREA school St Edward’s College in Gosford. The renewal process occurs every five years and has the intention of;

  • Assessing the authenticity of an Edmund Rice School.
  • Is the school being true to the Charism of the EREA Charter.
  • Are the touchstone being lived out in an authentic way.
  • Feedback is gained from teachers, parents, students, colleague principals, and all college staff.
  • The aim is to provide a summary of commendations and recommendations to assist the College in its future strategic planning.

What is clearly evident and obvious when you visit another EREA school are the connections you find and the similar sense of spirit. It was great to speak with students, teachers and parents of St Edward’s and work through the items they are clearly proud of and what areas they are committed to improving. What is of particular note is the constant reference to culture, which includes all members. The importance of partnership and working together to achieve outcomes for our students and the clear passion and commitment required within a college community to strive for excellence and improvement. I would like to thank Mr Franzin and EREA for this opportunity.
