Around The Primary

Dear Families

Physical education and sport are an essential component in maintaining each students’ health and wellbeing. In addition, research indicates that children who are more physically active learn better.

Our physical education and sport sessions are designed to ensure maximum engagement in activities while practicing fundamental movement skills and games. A strong focus is placed on teamwork and developing good sportsmanship. Our overall goal is to equip our students with the skills and confidence to engage in sports and physical activity throughout their lives.

As a community we can all be very proud of the Kindy to Year 2 students who participated in the Junior Primary Athletics Carnival on Thursday. The efforts on the track and during the team games were fantastic to see. At the same time, the ‘high fives’ they shared, the compliments they gave to each other and the smiles on their faces after completing a race or game were definitive highlights of the carnival.

Special thanks to Mr Williams for all his efforts to make this event such a resounding success. Our appreciation is extended to all the staff, parent volunteers, and Year 6 leaders for all their hard work on the day to ensure the smooth running of the carnival. Finally, we would like to extend our gratitude to the family cheer squads who showed up in full force to support our young participants. Your presence and encouragement created a vibrant and memorable atmosphere, and we are so thankful for your unwavering support.

Congratulations to the Year 3 students for their entertaining presentation centred around the theme of kindness during today’s Assembly. It serves as an important reminder for everyone to extend acts of kindness not only within the school environment but also within their own homes and the wider community.

We are looking forward to welcoming many Grandparents and special companions to our upcoming Grandparents’ Picnic, next Friday 3 November.

Kind regards

Counsellor's Corner

This term across the Primary School students will continue to learn the Keeping Safe Curriculum. This term they will cover the fourth focus area ‘Strategies to stay safe’:

  • Younger children learn to know their home phone number and who to trust with this information.
  • Supportive networks are reviewed, and children learn about community services which can help like 000.
  • Students learn a range of problem-solving strategies using relevant age-appropriate scenarios.
  • Assertive communication, persistence and resilience are all explored in this process.
  • Persistence is reinforced so students understand that they need to keep telling until someone listens and takes action.

Parents can support children to:

  • Regularly review their trusted networks to ensure they include people that they know will listen to them and help them.
  • Practise solving problems in a range of safe environments.
  • Be assertive, when necessary, by using language such as ‘No’ or ‘Stop, I don’t like it when you…’
  • Be persistent, especially when seeking help (to keep asking for help until a trusted adult helps them).
  • Know about local support services and how to access them.

Sport Update

Well done to all our Kindy, Pre-Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 students for an outstanding Carnival yesterday!  In our lessons we have been talking about sportsmanship, dealing with winning and losing, and remembering to enjoy the moment not just the result.  It was so impressive to see this in action and hear so many positive comments regarding this from staff and parents; well done to all students!

If you have any queries about anything sport-related, please contact me via email: steve.williams@cewa.edu.au
