Student Leadership

Harmony Week
The final Harmony Week for the class of ‘25 was a moment filled with laughter, learning and joy. The Year 12’s got the opportunity to dress up and represent the diversity of the cohort through beautiful pieces of traditional clothing.
The opportunities to join the cultural workshops were well taken, everyone got involved and was trying and learning new skills. As a diverse country, it is beautiful to experience the prevalent joy and respect in seeing the differences in our backgrounds. Truly, this was a moment to remember even well after high school.

Secondary Youth Leadership Conference
The Melbourne Secondary Youth Leadership Conference was an incredible experience for the Year 11 and 12 leaders of our school. They demonstrated our values of embracing learning and respecting others, as they attended the event with more than 1800 other students in Victoria.
This was an opportunity for student leaders to improve on their leadership through listening to speakers, one of the speakers being a past Year 12 ECSC student, and discussing how to make improvements with students from other schools.
As a special mention, Avleen (previous school captain 2024) was selected as a guest speaker to talk about her experience in leadership, and how it's been applied into her life after school too.
It was exhilarating to see that many students across the state gather together under the common value of leading, and bringing new connections and positivity to the school communities.

The YLAA was a really fun experience for our Year 11 and 12 leaders, with students from all over Victoria it was a chance to fully immerse themselves in an event that challenged our perspectives and pushed us to grow. We had the opportunity to engage with passionate students from different backgrounds, exchange ideas, and develop skills in communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. The workshops and activities provided practical tools for becoming more effective leaders, and we left the conference feeling inspired and motivated to make a positive impact in our community both in and out of school.

This year, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Group Leadership Conference held at the Melbourne Convention Centre. The event brought together young leaders from various schools with the goal of building teamwork, communication, and leadership skills in a collaborative environment.
The conference included throughout the day, we worked within small groups to complete a range of challenges that required problem solving, collaboration, and quick thinking. These activities gave me a chance to step out of my comfort zone and engage with people I had never met before. I saw how good leaders aren't in badges, don’t dominate discussions, but instead listen to others, adapt when things don’t go as planned, and guide the group in a respectful and supportive way.
One of the things that stood out to me during the conference was the variety of speakers who led different parts of the day. Each speaker brought their own energy, personality, and situations which helped keep the atmosphere engaging and dynamic. Some were factual and reflective, while others were energetic and humorous. Hearing from different voices gave me a broader perspective of what leadership can look like, and the many different approaches depending on the situation and what people are involved.
Overall, attending the conference gave me a clearer understanding of what leadership means. I learned that it’s not about just being in charge, but creating space for others to contribute and to building towards a shared vision, by leading by example. Since then, I've felt more confident being interactive in my space and applying what I've learned in my current leadership position at school.
