Middle School Report

We are proud to celebrate the many achievements and learning opportunities that have shaped our Middle School experience this term. Our students have continued to show curiosity, creativity, and commitment across all areas of school life - from the classroom to co-curricular programs. This term has been filled with rich experiences that have supported our students to grow as learners and leaders. Whether participating in sporting events, developing future goals, engaging in leadership training, or exploring the city, our students have embraced the chance to learn beyond the traditional classroom setting.
We would also like to acknowledge the ongoing efforts of our teaching staff, who continue to build their capacity to foster a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment. Together, we are building a positive culture of learning and belonging.
Student Engagement
Throughout the term, students have had access to a variety of engaging programs designed to enhance their learning, build relationships, and develop future-focused skills. Highlights have included Interschool Sports, where our students demonstrated teamwork, resilience, and school pride across multiple sporting disciplines. Our student leaders took part in leadership days that developed their confidence and ability to influence change in our school community.
Year 9 students completed their Morrisby Profiling, gaining valuable insights into their interests, aptitudes, and potential career paths. This has sparked important conversations about future subject selection and post-school pathways. Students also participated in our City Experience, learning to navigate Melbourne with independence while deepening their understanding of urban life and civic engagement. Across all year levels, incursions and the Engagement Program provided authentic, hands-on opportunities to connect classroom learning to real-world contexts, strengthening student engagement and motivation.
Restorative Practice and Relationship Building
This year, our Middle School staff have been working with Real Schools, a professional learning program focused on restorative practices - an approach that promotes strong relationships, mutual respect, and proactive support for behaviour and wellbeing. Rather than focusing on punishment, restorative practice centres on building connection and responsibility, and when challenges arise, helping students learn from their experiences and make positive choices moving forward.
A key part of this approach is using affective language - expressing how behaviour affects others in a respectful, clear, and supportive way. This can also be used at home to support children when they're struggling to stay focused:
- Instead of: “Stop wasting time on that game!” Try: “I feel concerned when I see you spending hours on gaming. I’d like us to make a plan to balance study and relaxation.”
- Instead of: “You’re always online instead of studying.” Try: “I feel frustrated because I know you’re capable of doing well. How can I support you to get started on your homework before going online?”
Using this kind of language invites calm, constructive conversations and helps young people take ownership of their behaviour.
Uniform and School Pride
We believe our school uniform plays an important role in building a sense of pride, unity, and belonging. When students wear their uniform correctly, they are showing respect for themselves, their peers, and their school community. It also supports a focused learning environment and promotes equity. We appreciate your continued support in helping our students meet our high expectations in this area.
Student Voice and Positive Climate for Learning
We are excited to gather feedback from students through the Attitudes to School Survey, which provides valuable insight into how students are experiencing school and where we can improve.
We are also continuing to work closely with students to review and refine our School Wide Positive Behaviour Framework. Their feedback ensures that our expectations and recognition systems reflect what matters most to them. Together, we are building a stronger positive climate for learning, where all students feel safe, supported, and inspired to succeed.
Thank You
Thank you to all our families for your continued partnership in supporting our students. Term 2 so far has been full of progress and promise, and we look forward to continuing this momentum for the remainder of the term.

Year 7 – Connections
Curriculum and Learning
This term, Year 7 students have been continuing to develop their skills and knowledge in a range of curriculum areas during their first semester of secondary school at Edgars Creek Secondary College. Students have engaged in experiments during their science classes, debates in English, and have created their own inventions and products in Humanities during the “Shark Tank” assessment. As the term continues, students will be completing their CATs and putting their best efforts into their work as we move towards semester reports and the completion of the semester.
Sporting Achievements
We are very proud to announce that the Year 7 soccer team has done incredibly well during interschool sports and has made it through to regionals, which will take place later this year. The students will continue to train every Friday morning during the soccer academy to prepare for these games and represent the College with pride.
We are also happy to announce that two students have progressed to the next round of the cross country competitions, which will also take place later in the year. Congratulations to all students who participated in the event and represented the College.
Attitudes to School Survey
During Term 2, all Year 7 students participated in the Attitudes to School Survey, providing them with an opportunity to use their voices to let the school know how their first semester of secondary school is going. Students have used this opportunity to discuss their experiences at Edgars Creek Secondary College so far and what they would like to see in the future.
Remainder of Term 2
We have a number of fun activities to look forward to as we continue through Term 2, including an end-of-term excursion and school-based activities being organised by the Year 7 leadership team and the Year 7 home group leaders. The Year 7 leadership team is very proud of the effort our Year 7 cohort has put into their learning and involvement in the school community so far and is very excited to continue working with students and families as we progress through their first year at Edgars Creek Secondary College.
Year 8 – Community
Science Experiments
This term Year 8 students have been busy with practical experiments in science class as they explore the physical and chemical changes. We would like to thank the students who correctly followed practical procedures to maintain safety in the laboratory. These practical tasks are a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their science investigation skills and their knowledge of chemistry.
Upcoming Ice Skating Excursion
On Thursday 12 June and Friday 13 June Year 8 students will have the opportunity to attend an end of term excursion to IceHQ in Reservoir. This excursion is a great opportunity to learn a new skill as well as have a memorable experience with their classmates. Our Year 8 students from 2024 commented that the ice skating excursion was one of the best days of Year 8 and I would encourage all Year 8 students this year to attend this fantastic day!
Elevate Education is coming to ECSC!
We are excited to announce that in Term 3 Elevate Education will be visiting our school to run two workshops with Year 8 students. Elevate is a nationally recognised organisation that specialises in delivering engaging, research-based study skills programs to help students become more effective and independent learners.
The Elevate team will be working with 50 Year 8 students who will be nominated by their teachers based on their work ethic and learning growth in class. These students will be notified at the start of Term 3.
Year 9 – Innovations
City Experience
Throughout Term 1, Year 9 students ventured into Melbourne’s CBD for an enriching city experience, where they engaged with important social issues and represented our school with pride. A key highlight of the day was their visit to The Big Issue, where they gained valuable insight into food insecurity and homelessness, broadening their understanding of challenges faced by many in our community. Afterward, students enjoyed some well-earned free time and lunch at Melbourne Central. Their behaviour and enthusiasm were outstanding throughout the day. With such a successful outing, plans for City Experience 2.0 are already underway!
Pat Cronin Presentation
Year 9 students had the valuable opportunity to listen to a powerful and thought-provoking presentation from the Pat Cronin Foundation, focusing on the impact of violence and the devastating consequences that can follow a single punch. The session highlighted the importance of making safe and respectful choices in heated moments. Students were highly engaged, listening attentively and showing great respect throughout, reflecting the seriousness of the message and their maturity in approaching such an important topic.
Morrisby Profiling
In early May, Year 9 students took part in the Morrisby profiling program, an engaging initiative designed to help them explore potential future career pathways. The profiling provided valuable insights into their strengths, interests, and aptitudes, encouraging thoughtful reflection on possible directions for life beyond school.
