Japan Day!

Last Friday was an incredible day filled with fun and cultural learning. Students were able to be involved in a wide range of Japan themed activities including dance and kendo workshops, manga drawing, puppet shows, art works and Japanese cultural sports. Throughout the day, the smiles on all students’ faces were a clear sign of the fun that was had. A huge thank you to Mrs Cray and Mrs Morgan for all of their hard work and organisation putting the day together!

Mother’s Day Stall -  This Thursday 8th May (at Scotsburn)

Our annual Scotsburn Mother’s Day stall is back! This is an opportunity for our students to express and learn more about gratitude, as well as giving thanks to the Mums or other significant people in their lives.

All gifts are $5, with students having the opportunity to purchase one or two gifts. Don’t forget to send some money along with your child on this day.

We have an assortment of items to choose from that the students think our Mums would like… we can’t give too many clues away!

Mother’s Day Breakfast - This Thursday 8th May (at Scotsburn)

As was the case last year, we are planning to celebrate all of our wonderful mothers in the community with a Mothers’ Day Breakfast. This special occasion will take place on Thursday 8th May, between 8:15am and 9:30am in the old building, Scotsburn. No need to bring anything, we will have all food and drink sorted, celebrating all of the wonderful contributions our mothers’ and special friends play in our lives.

We would love to see every student have someone special pop in during the morning, and we hope to see you there!

No Whole School Assembly this Friday

There will be no whole school assembly this Friday morning. The originally planned assembly was moved to last Friday for Japan Day. Therefore, we will spend the whole day at Scotsburn, with Family Groups in the afternoon - woo hoo!

Extra-Curricular Activities

Currently we have quite a few students involved in various extra curricular activities across the school which is great. Here are a few things that our students are involved in at the moment:

  • Albus - Photography Scholarship Program
  • Milaan - Music Scholarship Program
  • Lachy - Victorian High Abilities Program
  • Amity - Energy Breakthrough Team
  • Oisin - Victorian State School Spectacular
  • Darragh - Bulldogs Read Program
  • Amity - Cross Country Team
  • Will S - Cooking Program

It is amazing to see our senior students taking on so many opportunities that the school has to offer!

Food Bank Fruit and Breakfast Club Program

This term, we are officially up and running with the Foodbank program, receiving specific Scotsburn deliveries of fruit and breakfast items each week. Amazing!

As a reminder we will continue to offer Breakfast Club on Wednesday mornings before school, as well as fresh fruit for students throughout the day.

If any parents are free to volunteer some time on a Wednesday morning (8:40am - 9:20am) we would love the support!

Toastie Tuesdays!

Another reminder that Toastie Tuesdays will continue every Tuesday, for the hefty price of $1! Don’t forget to send a gold coin on Tuesdays for those that would like a Toastie.

Buninyong Community Playgroup

We look forward to once again welcoming the Buninyong Community Playgroup for a few mornings this Term. See below for their upcoming schedule. For their second visit to Scotsburn, our students will join the playgroup for an interactive incursion from the Ballarat Art Gallery - how cool!

SC1 Learning Snapshot

SC1 have had a wonderful start to Term 2. In Reading, we have been practising all the skills to make us successful readers. Building our fluency skills, predicting, summarising and comprehension. We have shared some narrative texts that also assists with our character building and setting as we prepare to write our own narrative.

Japanese Festival Day was a highlight last week. Everyone looked great in their costumes. Each year level experienced different parts of the festival. There was a range of craft, sport and interactive shows. The day was jam packed with lots of fun!  It was great to see the children immerse themselves in the experience and also expand their friendships in their new classes for the day. Special thanks to Mrs Cray and Mrs Morgan for organising a fun day. Also special thanks to Tracey for organising a yummy lunch.

SC2 Learning Snapshot

In SC2 we have had another super week in the classroom, settling into the term with amazing productivity! Last week in Maths we finished looking at the concepts of Area and Perimeter, and it was brilliant to see students grasp the relationship between the two. We have even been thinking like farmers, working out which rectangles with the same area have the smallest perimeter, thus costing us less for fencing!

As already mentioned, the Japan Day was a massive success, and once again the students from Scotsburn should be incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves and integrated into the Buninyong classrooms for the day.

Grade 6 parents, you should have received on Friday afternoon a form regarding Year 7 placement. The school is wanting these returned by tomorrow (Wednesday). If you didn't receive one or it is misplaced, please contact Jarrod ASAP. Thanks.

Have another awesome week!

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.
