Principal Message

Dear EMC Community,

Welcome back to Term 2! I am excited to be taking on the role as Acting Principal whilst Mr King is with the Victorian Teaching Academy over the next 12 months training and coaching other principals.

The beginning of Term 2 has already been busy. Our curriculum day provided staff with professional learning in Inclusive Education strategies and Cognitive Load Theory. The professional learning that all staff regularly complete ensures that we can provide a strong learning environment that caters for all students. Parent Teacher Conferences were well attended. It is pleasing to see teachers and parents working together to create the optimal conditions for students to thrive in their learning.

Tilly Butler, a 2024 EMC graduate, has received the exciting news that she is to receive a Premiers VCE Award for her VET Laboratory Skills work. The annual Premier’s VCE Awards recognise students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). Congratulations Tilly!

On Saturday the official opening of the Emergent Exhibition will be held at Bunjil Place. Olivia Stevens, a 2024 Graduate has had her Artwork selected to be exhibited during the Emergent exhibition. Olivia completed Yr 12 Art Creative Practice in Yr 11 and achieved an A for her Folio work. Congratulations Olivia!

It is a busy time for staff and students as we head into the last few weeks of semester one. Our Senior students in Years 10 + 11 are busy preparing for semester exams and completing final assessments. Year 7 - 9 students will be completing numerous GATs to finalise assessments. Progress reports will be available to parents next week and full semester reports are available at the end of term. I encourage parents to discuss your child's results with them, celebrate the great achievements and support your child to find some strategies to take on the challenges.

Last week we had 50 students in Yr 9 attend the Tasmania camp. The behaviour of the students was exceptional and it was a fantastic opportunity for staff and students to build relationships and investigate some fantastic areas of Tasmania.

We currently have our Yr 12 Outdoor Education class in the Grampians for 3 nights and all reports so far are showing students and staff are on another great adventure.

The Yr 7 camp is also fast approaching. The Year 7 camp is an important time for our students to work with their peers on problem solving and conquering adventures.

Over the next few weeks students will begin completing the education departments Attitude to School Survey. This is an important survey for us to gain insights into a range of learning, social and emotional attitudes of students.

As the weather starts to get cooler, can I remind students and families of the uniform policy. It is timely to consider if students have all the necessary uniform ready for the change in weather.

Lastly, I'm looking forward to the college Athletics carnival next week! May the best sub-school win!

Kind regards,

Jodie Ashby

Acting Principal.
